Ernest Clay
BOLTON Ernest “Pap” Clay died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 74.
A resident of Bolton, Mr. Clay was a factory worker at Roofing Manufacturing Co. He was a member of Brownsville M.B. Church.
He attended Orange Hill Public School and served in the Army in the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Henry Clay.
He is survived by his wife, Mary J. Clay; one daughter, Hattie Mae Johnson of Memphis; five sons, Chester Johnson of Bolton, Clayton Harris of Chicago, Troy Howard of New Orleans, James Howard of Jackson and Ernest Howard of Waterloo, Iowa; two sisters, Louise Johnson of Chicago and Shirley Clay of Los Angeles; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brownsville M.B. Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home in Vicksburg.
Helen Lucille Compton
OAK GROVE Helen Lucille Compton died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at her home in Oak Grove. She was 74.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Cat” Compton; two daughters, Helen Kay Compton and Patricia Compton; and her father, Joseph Lee Andy Collum.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Whitehead of Goodwill, La., and Connie May of Stephens, Ark.; a son, Roy Compton of Kermit, Texas; her mother, Inez “Jack” Allman of Pioneer; her stepfather, Herbert Allman of Pioneer; four sisters, Fannie Buffington of Rainier, Ore., Joyce Wilson of Mesquite, Texas, Cherry Compton of Oak Grove and Wanda Nelson of Pioneer; two brothers, Jody Collum and Leon Collum, both of Kermit; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pioneer Assembly of God with the Rev. Annie Mae Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at Reeks Cemetery in Oak Grove under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Melvin “Bubba” Whitehead, Scotty May, Andy Young, Adam Davis, Jon Cole Hales and Robbie Hales.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Compton, Ricky Compton, Lance Compton, Jeff Compton, Parker Gathings and Albert Caudel.
Harvey Eugene Eubanks
PIONEER, La. Harvey Eugene Eubanks died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. He was 23.
Born in Monroe, Mr. Eubanks was a resident of Pioneer, La.
He is survived by his father, William Steven Eubanks Sr. of Pioneer; his mother, Sheila Faye Eubanks of Pioneer; two brothers, William Steven Eubanks Jr. of Pioneer and Jamie Colter Martin of Hot Springs, Ark.; his maternal grandmother, Doris Faye Vernon of Pioneer; his paternal grandmother, Zella Leona Eubanks of Oak Grove; and aunts and uncles.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Paul Ninemire officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery in Pioneer.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Steven Eubanks, Alan Atkins, John Chastun, Richard McCorkle, Robert Atkins and John Welch.
Douglass Hamilton Hamberlin
FAYETTE Douglass Hamilton Hamberlin died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at Natchez Regional Hospital. She was 86.
Mrs. Hamberlin was born in Wilkinson County to the late Herman Hamilton and Ollie Kellogg. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Eastern Star, Fayette Community Garden Club and Rose Hill Baptist Church No. 2 in Fayette, where she was a mother and member of the Women’s Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emile Hamberlin Sr., and a brother.
Survivors include five sons, McKinley Hamberlin and Emile Hamberlin Jr., both of Chicago, and James Hamberlin, Herman Hamberlin and Lavern Hamberlin, all of Fayette; a daughter, Jacqueline Brownslow of Chicago; an adopted daughter, Shelia Horace of Dallas; one sister, Mae Madison of Woodville; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Rose Hill Baptist Church No. 2 with the Rev. James Beverly officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be until 7 tonight at Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.
Pallbearers will be Darius Hamberlin, Byron Hamberlin, Mark Hamberlin, Emile Hamberlin III, Comez Golden, Kelvin Boone, Shane Hamberlin and Shaun Hamberlin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Horace, Derrick McKinney and Jerry Liberty.
