St. Aloysius disposes of Salem, two-game losing skid

[10/4/03]St. Aloysius picked up a badly needed victory in its homecoming match with Salem, 38-20.

Drew Mazzanti scored four touchdowns, leading the way for the Flashes (2-4, 1-3 Region 4-1A), who picked up their first region win of the season.

St. Al led 25-20 after three quarters and scored 13 points in the final period to put away Salem.

Mazzanti scored his first touchdown in the second quarter on a 19-yard pass to Anthony Rector. He added another before the half on a 29-yard toss to Austin Golding.

In the second half, Mazzanti rushed for a pair of 9-yard scores.

Rob Jones opened the game’s scoring with a 51-yard run. He scored a second touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard rush.

Tri-County 33, Prentiss Christian 8

The Rebels (6-1) clinched the conference championship with the win over Prentiss. Even if Tri-County loses its final conference game against Union, it holds the tiebreaker over Prentiss with this win.

Tallulah 44, Greenville Christian 0

Cole Grissom ran for two touchdowns (7 and 60 yards) and threw for a third to lead Tallulah Academy (6-1, 2-1) over Greenville Christian.

Clay Morgan returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown and Tallulah’s defense held Greenville to 121 total yards.

Hinds AHS 18 St. Andrew’s 7

Albert Williams paced Hinds AHS (5-1, 1-0) with 101 yards and a touchdown in its region opener. Quarterback Austin Divinity added 79 yards on the ground and threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Marcel Young.

Chris Wright led the defense with 16 tackles.

Tensas 40, Huntington 6

Cody Hill led Tensas to its second win of the season with 103 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries.

Hill caught a fourth touchdown on a 45-yard pass from Tyler White, who also ran for a touchdown.

Huntington lost five fumbles on the night and threw two interceptions.

Deer Creek 25, SIA 0

Sharkey-Issaquena fell to 2-2 in the conference with its second consecutive loss, while Deer Creek jumped back into the playoff hunt at 2-2 as well.
