Blocked punt leads Benton past Porters Chapel

[10/11/03]Porters Chapel scored early, but couldn’t hold off Benton, losing 24-14.
In the third quarter, Benton blocked a PCA punt and ran it in from 31 yards for a 21-14 advantage. Benton then kicked a 35-yard field goal to seal the win.
Humphrey Barlow ran in from 2 yards out in the first quarter for a 6-0 Eagles lead.
After a Benton score, Gerald Mims added a 10-yard touchdown run and Ryan Hoben hit Chip Lofton on the two-point conversion for a 14-7 lead.
Benton scored again with 5 minutes, 54 seconds remaining in the second quarter, and the teams went into halftime tied at 14.
Briarfield 42, North Sunflower 12
Briarfield Academy (7-1) brought its win streak to seven games with a 42-12 win at North Sunflower.
The Rebels ran for 244 yards and contained North Sunflower on defense. Briarfield spread out its scoring with five different players reaching the end zone.
E.J. Holden carried 15 times for 133 yard and a touchdown. Blake Pierce added 80 rushing yards and a score. He also ran in a punt blocked by Jim Lensing.
Hinds AHS 46, Madison-St. Joe 7
Brandon Harris ran for two scores (10 and 5 yards) and caught a 68-yard touchdown as Hinds AHS piled up 431 yards of offense.
The Hinds AHS defense held St. Joe to 69 total yards.
Austin Divinity added a 3-yard TD run and returned an interception 26 yards for a score.
Albert Williams rushed 18 times for 122 yards for Hinds AHS.
Rebul 46, Franklin 6
Adam Kitchens scored three times on 142 yards rushing and added 13 tackles as Rebul (6-2) crushed Franklin.
Cody Sullivan contributed 65 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns (3, 11) while leading the defense with 25 tackles. Rebul led 27-0 at the half and scored 19 in the fourth quarter.
Claiborne 26, Tallulah Academy 8
Claiborne held Tallulah Academy to 188 yards and recovered all three Trojan fumbles in a 26-8 rout.
Claiborne returned the opening kickoff 81 yards for a TD and added rushing TDs in the second and third quarters. Down 26-0, Tallulah finally scored on a 22-yard run by Cade Marsh with 1:48 remaining.
Tensas 56, Veritas 17
Randall Borsch rushed for a pair of touchdowns (22, 27) and returned a kickoff 61 yards for a third score to lead Tensas past Veritas.
Leading 23-17 at halftime, Tensas scored 27 points in the third quarter to run away with the game.
Tensas held Veritas to minus-5 yards on the ground and forced two safeties and four fumbles.
Cody Hill contributed two rushing touchdowns for Tensas.
Central Hinds 7, SIA 2
The Confederates blocked a punt with two minutes remaining in the game and Chase Mahatlic forced the safety, but it wasn’t enough as Central Hinds edged by Sharkey-Issaquena
After Central Hinds rushed for a score in the first quarter, SIA couldn’t muster up any offense.
