Remus Miller Leist

Remus Miller Leist died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 88.
A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Leist was the son of the late Albert F. and Ella Harris Leist. He worked for Grand Gulf as a plumber and pipefitter for 35 years and was a member of the local plumber/pipefitter union. He was an Air Force veteran, having served in World War II and was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Thompson Leist; a sister, Maggie Dixon; and two brothers, Richard Leist and Frank Leist.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Leist of Beaverton, Ore., and Merle Leist of Brandon; a daughter, Dorothy Chong of Cary, N.C.; a brother, Charlie Leist of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Ingram, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Brandon, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Kim Leist, Zack Leist, Gerald Warrington, Randy Harris, Harold Johnson, Ritchie Jones, Matt Lockard and Terry Merideth.
Glen D. Sanders
ORANGE, Calif. Glen D. Sanders died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in Orange, Calif. He was 66.
Mr. Sanders was born in Claiborne County to Clarence and Ona Sanders and was a former resident of Vicksburg.
He was a longtime employee of Rockwell International in Long Beach, Calif., and a veteran of the Navy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sanders was preceded in death by one brother, William Sanders; and two sisters, Doris Pettis and Mary Dozier.
He is survived by his wife, Arden Sanders of Orange; two sons, Ricky Sanders and Billy Sanders, both of Orange; one daughter, Tracey Sanders of Anaheim, Calif.; five brothers, Charles Sanders and Bobby Sanders, both of Vicksburg, Presley Sanders of Pearl, David Sanders of Tulsa, Okla., and Paul Sanders of Wichita, Kansas; three sisters, Martha Staggs of Pascagoula, Lynn Hudson of Birmingham, Ala., and Trudy Dunn of Wiggins, Miss.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at National Cemetery in Anaheim.
Charles E. Varner
EPPS, La. Charles E. Varner died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at Glenwood hospital in West Monroe, La. He was 67.
Mr. Varner served as a Justice of the Peace in West Carroll Parish for 24 years. He was an Army veteran and was employed as transportation officer at the East Carroll Parish Prison Farm in Lake Providence.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Roberson Duncan Varner of Epps; two sons, Randy Duncan of Epps and Ricky Duncan of Rayville; three sisters, Bernice Carpenter of Camden, Ark., and Lillie Bell Hinton and Alice Stevens, both of Epps; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services were at 10 a.m. today at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi with Bryan Lipscomb officiating. Burial followed at Epps Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Johnny McVoy, Craig Freeman, Mike Freeman, Brian Freeman, Jerry Hinton and Marvin Boyette.
