Joe Harold Dean

DELHI Joe Harold Dean died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi. He was 84.

Born in Bassfield, Miss., Mr. Dean was a resident of Delhi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Roberta Dean; and three brothers, Maxie Terrall Dean, Lavon Dean and Sennett Dean.

Survivors include his wife, Doyle Busby Dean of Delhi; a son, Ken Hinkle of Hanover, Pa.; two daughters, Janet Blackwell of Bastrop, La., and Shirley McNeer of Mangham, La.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi with Dr. Marcus Murphy and the Rev. James Lee Busby officiating. Burial will follow at Crowville Masonic Cemetery in Crowville, La.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Busby, Twayne Hosea, Jerry Patrick, Ricky Patrick, Bobby Cleveland, Charles Earl Monroe and Bill Patrick.

Jack Vardium Hemphill

OAK GROVE Jack Vardium Hemphill died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. He was 92.

Born in Brookhaven, Miss., Mr. Hemphill was a resident of Oak Grove.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jack Hemphill Jr.; and his parents, George Hemphill and Betty Dickins.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae Hemphill of Oak Grove; a granddaughter, Cynthia Ann Moffett of Atlanta, Ga.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Lee Piercy officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Harper, Tommy Sullivan, Shane McCalmon and Dewitt Robertson.

Bernice Judge King

Services for Bernice Judge King will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James M.B. Church with the Rev. Charlie Blackmore officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. King died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003. She was 66.

She was born in Arcola to the late Dave and Lucy C. Judge. She was a former member of St. James M.B. Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel King Sr.; a brother, Dave Judge; a sister, Canary Fuller; her son, Jessie King; and her daughter, Rosie M. King.

She is survived by three sons, Samuel E. King Jr. of Huntsville, Ala., Robert L. King of Edwards and Larry King of Vicksburg; five daughters, Bernice King of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Lucy M. King of Elgin, Ill., and Jeanette Calvin, Diane Anderson and Joyce M. King, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, Arthur Judge and Peter Judge, both of Vicksburg; one sister, Maggie Judge Hill of San Francisco; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Goldie Aileen Russell

OAK GROVE Goldie Aileen Russell died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop, La. She was 89.

Born in Raleigh, Miss., Mrs. Russell was a resident of Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Russell; and her parents, Allen B. and Lena McGowen.

Survivors include a son, Harold Russell of Oak Grove; two daughters, Maxine R. Knight of Jackson and Wilma Duncan of Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Edith Thornton of Clovis, Calif., and Maureen Hinson of Bastrop; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Ronald Ratley officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Julia Ann Harris Scott

Services for Julia Ann Harris “Big Julia” Scott were at 1 p.m. today at Greater Mount Zion M.B. Church with the Rev. Edmond Gibbs officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Scott died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 64.

She was a retired registered nurse and a homemaker. She was a member of Mount Abel M.B. Church in Mound.

Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert and Abbie Harris, and two sisters, Willie Jean Stouts and Sudie Mae Harris.

Survivors include two sons, Derrick Scott and Eric Scott, both of Vicksburg; seven brothers, James Harris, Eugene Williams, William Harris and Larry Harris, all of Perth Amboy, N.J., Anthony Harris of Charleston, S.C., Albert Harris of Vicksburg and Wilbert Harris Jr. of Los Angeles; three sisters, Carolyn Harris of Vicksburg, Gennie Brown of Tallulah and Hazel Davis of Perth Amboy; three grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including Preston Gaines.

Gertrude Easter Maloyd Williams

Gertrude Easter Maloyd Williams died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 87.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John Williams.

Survivors include a son, David E. Miller Sr. of Houston, Texas; a grandson, David E. Miller Jr. of Houston; and other relatives and friends, including Odessa Ann Warren of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
