Square Harris Jr.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. Square Harris Jr. died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Ind. He was 48.

A former resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Harris lived in Cleveland, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his father, Square Harris; his mother, Addie B. Rogers; his brother, Moses Sprantley; and his sister, Barbara Jean Baldwin.

Survivors include his son, Square Harris III of Cleveland; two daughters, Melody Vines and Squarelena Harris, both of Cleveland; two stepdaughters, Angel Madaris and Toni Hart, both of Cleveland; 12 brothers, Henry Harris, Charles Rogers Harris, Ernest Rogers Harris, Ira Harris Parker, Noel Taylor, John Lee Taylor, McCharles Taylor, Anthony Williams and Michael Thomas, all of Vicksburg, Robert Rogers of Cleveland, Lee Chiles of Detroit and James Henry Tribbles of Indianapolis; 10 sisters, Margaret Harris, Irene Harris, Queenie Harris, Mary Wilson, Frankie Williams, Lowanda Miles, Rhonda Parker, Mary Jane Parker, Wilma Jean Williams and Dorothy Thomas, all of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; and other relatives.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Annie L. Lum

Annie L. Lum died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 84.

A native of Vicksburg, Mrs. Lum was the daughter of the late Samual Francis and Alma Lou Pettway Raney. She had been employed with Brookly Field Air Base and the Im Fine Garment Factory for several years. She had served as a seamstress for many years before her retirement. She also was a Warren County foster mother for many years and was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lum was preceded in death by her sister, Sally Emfinger; and brothers, John B. Raney, William H. Raney, James Raney and Wilbur Raney.

She is survived by her husband, A.D. Lum of Vicksburg; two stepdaughters, Melissa Lyons and Alva Woods, both of Vicksburg; foster children, Michael Ayers of Philadelphia and Ashley Ayers of Florida; two brothers, Victor Raney of Texarkana, Ark., and Robert Earl Raney of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Pullen officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon Monday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Raney, Winston Lyons, Quent Woods, Brody Cook, Michael Miles and Allen Lyons.

Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Barnes, Ricky Wood, Pete Stubbs, Sherwood Lyons, Cliff Borough, Dean Mitchell and Ryan Raney.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Lula Cagle Thomas

Lula Cagle “Lou” Thomas died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 92.

The daughter of the late James Oscar “J.O.” and Jennie Stubbs Cagle, Mrs. Thomas was a native of Utica but had been a resident of Vicksburg since the mid-1950s. She was employed with Westinghouse Electric Corporation for several years before retiring in 1970.

Mrs. Thomas was a former member of the Wayside Extension Home Makers Club and the Westinghouse Retirees Coffee Club. She was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Otho Ray Thomas of Vicksburg; her son, Henry T. Thornton Jr. of Clinton; her sister, Margie Robinson of Jackson; her brother, Percy Cagle of Florence; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Biedenharn, pastor of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 this afternoon at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Greg Thornton, Jimbo Cogan, Charles “Sonny” Rule, George Callen, Gene Steen and Warren Ratcliff.

Honorary pallbearers will be C.J. Cogan and Mike King.
