Dexter E. Lewis

Dexter E. Lewis died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 73.
A veteran of the Air Force, Mr. Lewis worked for Anderson-Tully Co. for more than 30 years. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Harvey Lewis and Ida Lewis.
He is survived by a son, Lemond Williams of Vicksburg; a daughter, Ida Williams of Vicksburg; three brothers, Rufus Johnson of Eaton Town, N.J., and Harvey Lewis and Ed Lewis, both of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including David Gibbs, Tommylee Gibbs and other members of the Gibbs family of Vicksburg.
Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Helen Logue Martin
TALLULAH Helen Logue Martin died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 68.
Born in Vicksburg, Mrs. Martin had lived in Tallulah for the past 53 years. She was a retail clothing store operator, a homemaker and a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Nan Peterson.
Survivors include her husband, John Earl Martin of Tallulah; a son, James Albert Martin of Tallulah; two daughters, Marion Hopkins and Audrey Fortenberry, both of Tallulah; three brothers, F.M. Logue Jr. of Rayville, La., and Al Logue and Henry Logue, both of Monroe; two sisters, Kathryn Chaney of Vicksburg and Joy Davis of Start, La.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Tallulah with the Revs. Ferre D’Cruz and Ramon Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Robert Jackson, Bill Yerger, Tommy Wixson, Dick Brown, Freddy Gaumnitz and Steve Gustafson.
Eddie James Mosley
Eddie James Mosley died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 81.
Mr. Mosley was of the Baptist faith. He was a Mason and member of Sunshine Lodge No. 99.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cedella Mosley; a daughter, Mary Mosley Jones; a son, Gabe Mosley; and a granddaughter, Estella Mosley.
Mr. Mosley is survived by two sons, Jessie Mosley and Willie James Mosley, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Dorothy Mae Brown of Fayette; a brother, Frank Mosley of Crystal Springs; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dexter Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Clemon Ithema Branan O’Brien
Clemon Ithema Branan O’Brien died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow, Mont. She was 86.
Mrs. O’Brien was born in Vicksburg to Oscar and Mammie Stevenson Branan. She graduated in 1936 from Vicksburg High School. She moved with her husband to Brandon in 1952, then returned to Vicksburg in 1980.
In 1998, she moved to Montana.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry O’Brien, two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Harry W. O’Brien of Mobile, Ala., Peter F. O’Brien of Edwards and Patrick H. O’Brien of Vicksburg; two daughters, Alice Hawkins of St. Marie, Mont., and Joyce Marlowe of Panama City, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service at Fisher Funeral Home.
Cadmus W. Shipp
PORT GIBSON Cadmus W. Shipp died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Claiborne County Hospital. He was 85.
Born in Illinois, Mr. Shipp was a former resident of Brookhaven, where he owned and operated Shipp’s Florist and Nursery for 35 years. He had lived in Grand Gulf since 1988.
Mr. Shipp was an Army Air Corps veteran, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He belonged to the Masonic Lodges in Jackson and Brookhaven and was a Shriner. He was a member of the Wahabi Temple in Jackson and the VFW. He was retired from the Mississippi State Department of Agriculture.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Blackmon Shipp of Vicksburg; two daughters, Frances Cremer of Diamond Head, Miss., and Ann S. Smith of Brookhaven; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Revs. Darrell White, Malcolm Massey and Wiley Reed officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will be at 2 p.m. at East Haven Cemetery in Brookhaven.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Robert Baker, Darrell Baker, Kevin Smith, Jim Hall, Fred Lowery and Raymond Watts.
Kimberly Nicole Smith
LELAND Kimberly Nicole Smith died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Claiborne County. She was 18.
Kimberly was born in Jackson and had lived in Leland most of her life. She was a former member of Jerusalem Temple Church God in Christ in Leland and attended St. James A.M.E. Church, where she was a member of the YPD and youth choir. She was Sunday school secretary and a 2002 debutante.
Kimberly attended Leland Public Schools. She was a 2003 graduate of Leland High School, where she was a member of the school choir, marching and concert bands, Student Council, Mock Trail, FCA and TSA. She served as secretary of the FBLA and was a library assistant. She received the Sarah Allen Legacy Scholarship and Friends of the Festival of Leland Music Award, among others.
She was pursuing a degree in elementary education from Alcorn State University.
Kimberly was preceded in death by her father, Cornelius Smith.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Sammy Jackson of Leland; three brothers, Reginald Wicks of Leland, Christopher Morris of San Diego and Marcus Morris of Spring Valley, Calif.; a sister, Olenka Regina Morris of San Diego; her grandmothers, Carrie Smith of Leland and Dorothy Rogers of Vicksburg; her great-grandmother, Hazel M. Hatchett of Vicksburg; and aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends, including the Jackson family of Leland.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. James A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Glenell Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Bogue Memorial Cemetery in Strike City.
Visitation will be from 2 until 6 tonight at Dillon Funeral Home in Leland and from noon until the service Wednesday at the church.
