Evon Shipp Sumrall

YAZOO CITY Evon Shipp Sumrall died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Yazoo Health Rehabilitation Center. She was 66.

Born in Yazoo County, Mrs. Sumrall was a longtime resident of Rolling Fork and had lived in Yazoo City for the past two months. She was a member of Deer Creek Church in Rolling Fork.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Sumrall of Yazoo City; two sons, Charles F. Sumrall of Yazoo City and Douglas D. Sumrall of Vicksburg; three daughters, Darlene Smith of Jackson and Theresa Tilghman and Marie Sumrall, both of Rolling Fork; two brothers, Lynwood Shipp of Yazoo City and Buck Shipp of Zachary, La.; two sisters, Laura Crowder of Jackson and Alma Nelson of Yazoo City; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Barry Shipp officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Jean G. Wylie

Jean G. Wylie died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at her home. She was 71.

Born in Indianapolis, Mrs. Wylie had lived in Vicksburg since 1952. She was a former employee at The Valley department store and was a seamstress at The Hub and Karl’s.

Mrs. Wylie was a member of the Allien Sunday school class and was historian of the Dorcas Circle at First Presbyterian Church. She was a former member of the Garden Club and a member of Gideons International.

Survivors include her husband, Walter E. Wylie Sr. of Vicksburg; two sons, Walter E. Wylie Jr. of West Columbia, S.C., and John Dekalb Wylie of Vicksburg; a daughter, Ann Wylie of Vicksburg; four brothers, Stanley Gosc of Orange Park, Fla., John E. Gosc of Mooresville, Ind., Paul Gosc of Martinsville, Ind., and Robert Gosc of Schertz, Texas; two sisters, Rose Marie Quinn of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Roberta Hoots of Indianapolis; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Steve Bryant and Harrison Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the service Wednesday in Ward Hall at the church.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Lipscomb, Martin Pace, Dr. Lee Giffin, Robert Cooper, Steve Cooper, Tom Cooper, George McBride and Doyle Lee.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Allien Bible class and Dorcas Circle of First Presbyterian Church.

Memorials may be made to Gideon Bibles or Project 175 at First Presbyterian Church.
