Eylin Mable Gaines

Eylin Mable Gaines died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 82.

Mrs. Gaines was a member and mother at Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church. She was a homemaker and member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Gaines Sr.; a daughter, Doris Gaines Wilson; her mother, Henrietta Johnson; her father, Robert Green; one granddaughter, Deleslyn Rossberg; six brothers; and six sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Bennie Gaines Jr., Malcolm Gaines and Harold W. Gaines Sr., all of Vicksburg; five daughters, Gloria Gaines Hodge, Janice Gaines Jenkins and Eileen Gaines, all of Vicksburg, Deloris Gaines McGee of San Francisco and Marva Gaines of Daly City, Calif.; two brothers, Charles Green of Vicksburg and Melvin Green of Vallejo, Calif.; three sisters, Bernice Burkhalter and Bobbie Jean Green, both of Chicago, and Lillie Simpson of Vicksburg; 39 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Joseph Burns of Vicksburg, the Ford family of Denver and members of the Smith, Slater, Williams and Ervin families of Vicksburg.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Oscar Mayfield

Oscar Mayfield died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 78.

Mr. Mayfield was retired from Anderson-Tully Co. and was a member of Mount Givens M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Ross Mayfield.

He is survived by four sons, Oscar Mayfield Jr. and Elmore Mayfield, both of Vicksburg, Joseph Mayfield of Byram and Johnny Mayfield of Stone Mountain, Ga.; three daughters, Dorothy M. Heard and Josie M. Hudson, both of Jackson, and Cariola M. Jones of Vicksburg; a brother, the Rev. Henry Mayfield Sr. of Vicksburg; two sisters, Louise MacDonald of Greenwood and Elizabeth Gee of Vicksburg; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

William McDowell McIntosh

ST. JOSEPH Services for William McDowell “Mack” McIntosh were at 11 a.m. today at Cox Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. Jonathan King officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph.

Mr. McIntosh died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at his home in St. Joseph. He was 82.

Reared in Oak Grove, Mr. McIntosh graduated from Louisiana Tech University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and played football and boxed. He served in the Air Force, then returned to West Carroll Parish to work as a cattle farmer. He served on the West Carroll School Board and was a member of the Ruffin Golf Club and Bayou DeSiard, Lake Providence and Lake Bruin country clubs.

He served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Western Senior Golf Association and was a member of the Mississippi Seniors Golf Association. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of St. Joseph.

Mr. McIntosh was preceded in death by his parents, John Robert and Edna Norma McIntosh; two brothers, John Brown McIntosh and James David McIntosh; and a wife, Cora Etta McIntosh.

He is survived by his wife, Aileen Perry McIntosh of St. Joseph; two sisters, Tut Lancaster of St. Joseph and Valerie Hester of Pensacola, Fla.; a stepson, Philip Guthrie of Dallas; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mack Lancaster, Rob Lancaster, Dave McIntosh, John Robert McIntosh, Phillip McIntosh, Tom McIntosh, Doug McIntosh and Wyly Gilfoil.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of St. Joseph, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Shriners Children’s Hospital or a favorite charity.

Lillian Pauline Sherman

DELHI Lillian Pauline Sherman died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003. She was 86.

Mrs. Sherman was preceded in death by her husband, Othel Jewel Sherman, and her parents, Perry McBroom and Maude V. Best McBroom.

She is survived by a son, Bobby Sherman of Tallulah; five daughters, Maxine Pittman of Tunica, La., Alice Weiss of Hot Springs, S.D., Mary Cencer of Delhi, Helen Gwin of Epps and Ann Rozycki of Chicago; two brothers, Ray McBroom of Rayville, La., and P.F. McBroom of Columbus, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home of Delhi with the Rev. Harold Spillers officiating. Burial will follow at McKnight Cemetery in Holly Ridge.

Pallbearers will be Kerry Gwin, Carl Gwin, Kevin Gwin, Scott Pittman, Michael Cencer and Kevin Corley.

Walter Watson Sr.

Walter Watson Sr. died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at University Medical Center. He was 77.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Watson was a retired licensed mechanic and a Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maude and Laura Watson; and five brothers, Ike Watson, Clyde Watson, Major Watson, Pete Watson and Albert Watson.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Watson of Vicksburg; a son, Walter Watson of Vicksburg; six daughters, Addie Clark, Edith Caples, Deloris Watson, Lillie Tubbs, Bessie Watson and Inez Carter, all of Vicksburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and friends.
