Jesse James Gordon

Jesse James Gordon died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 69.

Mr. Gordon attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Club. He was a retired, self-employed contractor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Mary Evans Gordon; a brother, Joe Gordon; and a sister, Margie Elzie.

Survivors include his wife, Hilton Jones Gordon of Vicksburg; three sons, Michael James Gordon and James Lemont Smith, both of Vicksburg, and Dwyane Anthony Gordon of Lithonia, Ga.; a daughter, Robyn Michele Gordon of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; and other relatives, including Glory F. Gee.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Nolan Louis Harper

KILBOURNE, La. Nolan Louis Harper died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at his home in Kilbourne, La. He was 64.

Mr. Harper was a lifelong resident of Kilbourne.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Frank Harper; his mother, Gracie Mae Harper; and two brothers, Bobby Gene Harper and Norman Lewis Harper.

He is survived by Margaret Thompson of Kilbourne; a son, Jimmy Harper of Kilbourne; two daughters, Karen Thompson and Tracy Smith, both of Oak Grove; one sister, Marie Bristol of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. Bernard Duchesne officiating. Burial will follow at Kilbourne Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Byron Green, Richard Cowden, Claude Grubbs, Marty Albright, James Bilberry and C.L. Allen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Haley, Gilmer Whittington, Richard Boutwell and H.G. Wactor.

Shirley Loyd

PATTISON Shirley Loyd died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at Liberty Community Living Center in Liberty. She was 61.

Mrs. Loyd was a native of Shreveport, La., but lived in Pattison for the past 40 years. She was a retired convenience store owner and a member of Pattison Baptist Church.

Mrs. Loyd was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Loyd; a son, Stacey Loyd; and her father, Ped Kay Grant.

She is survived by a son, Chris Loyd of Brookhaven; two daughters, Jennifer Harper of Bossier City, La., and Allison Fagan of Pattison; her mother, Eva A. Grant of Blanchard, La.; a sister, Charlotte Dennis of Shreveport, La.; a brother, Michael Grant of Moss Bluff, La.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Unity Baptist Church in Jefferson County with Rev. John Slade, pastor of Pattison Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.

Talmadge Earl Pearson Sr.

DELHI Talmadge Earl Pearson Sr. died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi. He was 78.

Mr. Pearson was born in Hosston, La., but lived in Transylvania, La.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Henry Pearson and his mother, Grace Ophelia Pearson.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Lou Pearson; three sons, Ronald L. Pearson of Petal, Talmadge Earl Pearson Jr. of Texas and Rev. Paul Pearson of Glenmora, La.; two stepsons, Michael C. Rushing of Sulphur, La., and Jimmy Ray Rushing of Jackson; two stepdaughters, Wanda Reed of Greenville and Melba King of Transylvania; three brothers, Charles Pearson of Transylvania, Cliford Pearson of Bossier City, La., and John Pearson of Baton Rouge, La.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Transylvania Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery in Lake Providence, La.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Transylvania Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Pearson’s grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Transylvania Baptist Church.

Robert Edmund Waring

Robert Edmund “Bobby” Waring died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 82.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Waring graduated from Carr Central High School. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity at the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University. He graduated from MSU with a bachelor’s of science degree in business.

He was a Navy veteran, having served on the USS Dixie in the Hebrides Islands, was stationed as a de-coder at Pearl Harbor and served on Joint Task Force I in Washington and Com-8 in New Orleans. He was discharged in June 1946 with the rank of Lt. (jg).

Mr. Waring was president and general manager of Vicksburg L.P. Gas Co.; a member of the Sons of the Legion Drum and Bugle Corps; and was a member of the Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Elks Club and Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Nell Hammond Waring of Holly Springs, Miss.; and his parents, D.P. Waring Sr. and Katherine Dornbusch Waring.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth A. Waring of Vicksburg; two daughters, Polly Waring of New Orleans and Bonnie Waring Walker of Greenwood; a stepdaugher, Patti Webb of Morgan City, La.; two sons, Robert E. Waring Jr. of Raleigh, N.C., and Richard L. Waring of Vicksburg; four sisters, Katherine Waring Silver and Betty Waring Aden, both of Vicksburg, Mary Francis Waring of Jackson and Nancy Waring Redmond of Tampa, Fla.; three brothers, D.P. Waring Jr. and James L. Waring, both of Vicksburg, and Phillip Albert Waring of Alexandria, La.; a brother-in-law, B. Douglas of Corinth, Miss; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home with the Revs. James Biedenharn and Geoffrey Joyner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service at Fisher Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Albert Dornbusch, John H. Walker Jr., John H. Walker III, Dan Waring, Howard Waring, Robert Webb IV, Mike Conn, Pete Stone and Johnny Owen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Eugene Ferris, Joyce Langston, William Dornbusch, J. Stanford Terry, Ed Harmon, Walter McLellan, Johnny Holland, John Ellard, Parker Ramsay, Jesse Sanders, Don McVan, Beau Denton, Max Maxwell, Whitney Doiron, Kirk Harper, Rick Harmon, Melanie Nelson, Anita Lucas, Ora McCoy, Dr. Mike Davis, Dr. Alan Arrington, Dr. Karl Hatten and all the ICU staff at River Region Medical Center.
