Bessie Mae Thomas Brown

Services for Bessie Mae Thomas Brown will be at noon Tuesday at the House of Peace Worship Church with Rev. Casey Fisher, pastor of Grove Street M.B. Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Monday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the church.

Mrs. Brown died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 73.

She was a member and mother at Grove Street Baptist Church. She was also a member of Christian Home Society No. 1.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Edward J. Brown Sr.; a brother, Percy Chambers; and her parents, Ceasar and Rosie Lee Thomas.

Survivors include five sons, James Brown, Charlie Brown, Herbert Brown and Darrell Brown, all of Vicksburg, and Edward J. Brown Jr. of New Orleans; four daughters, Mary Brown Marshall of Vicksburg, Patricia Brown Hayes of Mobile, Ala., Sadie Brown Holland of Calumet City, Ill., and Rose Brown Sims of Albion, Mich.; one brother, Ceasar Thomas Jr. of Vicksburg; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Emma Lee S. Bruno

ST. JOSEPH Emma Lee S. “Emily” Bruno died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. She was 92.

Mrs. Bruno was born in Utica and had lived in St. Joseph since 1929. She was in the grocery business and ran a bakery and a movie theater between 1930 and 1947. She also operated Emily House Restaurant for 50 years.

Mrs. Bruno was a member and officer of the Tensas Garden Club for 68 years and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Alter Society. In 1990 she received the Diocesan Bishop’s Medal. She also received the DAR medal and had “Miss Emily Day” proclaimed on Aug. 15, 1982, in St. Joseph, when she received keys to the city.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas B. Bruno; and a son, Anthony N. Bruno.

Mrs. Bruno is survived by a sister, Aline Williams of Bastrop, La.; four granddaughters, Charlotte Bruno Green of Tallulah, Margaret B. Berry of Monroe, La., Elizabeth B. Chiles of Longview, Texas, and Emily Anne McDonald of Swartz, La.; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph with the Revs. Jacob Thomas and John Cunningham of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow at Natchez Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah from 5 until 8 tonight with rosary at 7.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Bruno Berry, Scott Watson, Harrison Rinehart, Sterling Blanche, Michael Vizard, Tommy Canizaro, Terry Dowdy and Buddy Hendrix.

Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Britt, Joseph Gerache, David Alford, Burton Berry, Jack Grace Jr., Phil Watson, William W. Watson, R.J. Lancaster, Philman Smith, Harold McDaniel, Gus Francis and Jerry Outlaw.

Maude Drake

Maude Drake died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 86.

Mrs. Drake was a native of Yokena and a member of Mount Givens Church and St. Johns’s Burial Society. She was a homemaker and a retired housekeeper.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and six bothers and sisters, including Daniel Taylor, Effie Harps and Rosie Morilla Thomas.

She is survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Charles L. Ford

Charles L. “Buster” Ford died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 76.

Mr. Ford was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and a graduate of St. Aloysius High School. He was in the Army during World War II.

Mr. Ford was a retired administrator of Kuhn Memorial Hospital. He was also a member of the Allein Post American Legion, a member of the fourth-degree Knights of Columbus, the American Association of Radiographic Technologists and a graduate of International Accountants Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. Ford and Mary Bell Moore Ford; and a granddaughter, Leslie Ford.

Mr. Ford is survived by his wife, Celeste A. Ford of Vicksburg; two sons, William A. Ford of Vicksburg and Donald F. Ford of Madison; two daughters, Mary Celeste Crowder of Richmond, Va., and Karla Ann Ford of Jackson; a brother, Alfred Ford of Vicksburg; a sister, Betty Ford McBroome of Winnsboro, La.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Farrell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home. Knights of Columbus prayers will be at 5 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 5:15.

Pallbearers will be William Bellan, George Roesch, Sid Tucker, Frank Campbell, Dr. Waverley Artz, Senior Airman Michael Ford, Ret. Col. Florian Yoste and William Yoste.

Honorary pallbearers will be Pfc. Jeremy Crowder, Dr. Walter Johnston, James Davidson, James Bres, Michael Lee, Lesta Lee and Jack Geary.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or to Vicksburg Catholic School.

William McIntosh

ST. JOSEPH William “Mack” McIntosh died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at his home in St. Joseph. He was 82.

Mr. McIntosh was a retired cattleman.
