Virgie Hendricks Shepherd

Virgie Hendricks Shepherd died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at her home. She was 95.
A native of Franklin Parish, Mrs. Shepherd was the daughter of the late Henry Bascom and Helen Hortense Chambless Hendricks. She attended Central High School in Delhi and Louisiana State Normal in Natchitoches. She was a charter member of the Eagle Lake Development Association, serving as treasurer for a number of years.
She was a timber and row-crop farmer and worked in real estate. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Shepherd was preceded in death by her husband, James Haralson Shepherd, owner of the Shepherd Hotel at Eagle Lake; a brother, Ira Hendricks Sr.; and five sisters, Ethel Harrington, Agnes McEacharn, Julia Flanagan, Roberta Payne and Blanch Hendricks.
She is survived by 18 nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Marion Dunham, nephew of the deceased, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Allen McBride, Jim Merriman, Tracy Higdon, Perry Payne, Charles Hendricks and Crosby Simmons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sidney Payne, George Shepherd, Bill Parker, Roy Simmons, Herb Packer, Ab Southerland, C.R. Wadsworth, Jimmy Rhodes, Dr. William Hand, Mark Robinson, Vernie Mitchell, Ira Hendricks, Robert Middleton and Ronnie Flanagan.

Dorothy Elizabeth Stennett
TALLULAH Dorothy Elizabeth Stennett died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah. She was 82.
Mrs. Stennett was born in Meridian and had lived in Tallulah for three years. She was a housewife.
She is survived by her husband, John W. Stennett Sr. of Tallulah, and two sons, Leonard Thomas Stennett of Thibodaux, La., and John W. Stennett Jr. of Temple, Texas.
Services were at 11 a.m. today at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Nichols officiating. Burial followed at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah.
Charles Leroy Vining Jr.
SONDHEIMER Charles Leroy Vining Jr. died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Glenwood Medical Center in West Monroe. He was 68.
Mr. Vining was born in Darnell, La., and was a resident of Sondheimer. He graduated from Lake Providence High School, served four years in the Army and received a master’s degree in education from Northeast Louisiana University. He taught and coached at Transylvania Junior High School, where he retired after serving as principal.
He served in the Louisiana State Legislature and was a farmer, rural mail carrier and operator of Farmers Qwik Stop. He was a Mason and Shriner.
Mr. Vining was a member of the East Carroll Parish Police Jury and was president of the East Carroll Parish Port Commission. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sondheimer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Leroy Vining Sr., and his mother, Bobbie Jean Beatty.
He is survived by his wife, Reta Vining of Sondheimer; two daughters, Vicki Vining Baker of Tallulah and Sheila Paris Caballero of Tustin, Calif.; three sons, Charles L. Vining III of Tallulah, Greg Paris of Transylvania, La., and Richard Vining of Warner Robins, Ga.; two brothers, Randall Vining of Yuma, Ariz., and John Vining of Sondheimer; two sisters, Dr. Bobbie Donald of West Monroe and Darlene Duncan of Shreveport; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends, including Joann and Billy Joe Cook of Dubach, La.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Melbourne Baptist Church in Alsatia, La., with the Rev. James Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Phil Jackson, Wallace Oliver, Ted Oliver, Thornton Russell, Billy Joe Cook and Gerald Tonore.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wyly Gilfoil, John Eubanks, and members of the East Carroll Police Jury and East Carroll Port Commission.

Lorine Cook Warren
Lorine Cook Warren died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 76.
Mrs. Warren was born in Jackson to Frank and Dora Bell Forbes Cole. She was a former resident of Jackson and Natchez and had lived in Vicksburg for a number of years. She was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a husband, Henry Junior Cook.
Survivors include her husband, John D. Warren; one daughter, Louise Cook Herrod of Vicksburg; a sister, Hazel Barber of Harrisville; three grandchildren, Debbie Ederington of Vicksburg, Joe Herrod of Tallulah and Chris Herrod of Hattiesburg; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Miles officiating. Burial will be at noon at Floral Hills Cemetery in Pearl.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Joe Herrod, Chris Herrod, Charles Ederington, Ronnie Herrod, Daniel Herrod and Richard Ables.
