Lula Mae Brown
PATTISON Lula Mae Brown died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at Sutter-Salono Hospital in Vallejo, Calif. She was 60.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Burner M.B. Church in Pattison. Burial will follow at Ellis Cemetery in Pattison.
Visitation will be from 1 until 8 tonight at Dean Memorial Funeral Home in Brandon.
Robert I. DeWitt
PORT GIBSON Robert I. “Bob” DeWitt died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 83.
Born in Worton, Md., Mr. DeWitt was educated at the Virginia Military Institute. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II and was an officer and pilot for the Air Force for 28 years. He retired as a lieutenant colonel.
He was in management with Combustion Engineering National Tank Company and was construction superintendent of the Grand Gulf Nuclear Plant before retiring in 1989.
Mr. DeWitt was a member of Port Gibson United Methodist Church, the Mississippi Methodist Cursillo Group, the Methodist Men’s Group and Port Gibson Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by a son, Puffer Newman of Clinton.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Newman DeWitt of Port Gibson; a daughter, Melissa “Mimi” Lawrence of Mesa, Ariz.; five sons, Tom Newman of Jackson, Breck DeWitt of Marietta, Ga., Robert DeWitt of Nevada, Geoffrey DeWitt of Florida and Christopher DeWitt of Pennsylvania; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Port Gibson United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the church.
Memorials may be made to Port Gibson United Methodist Church or to a favorite charity.
Maude Drake
Services for Maude Drake will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Givens Church in Yokena with the Rev. Melvin Bolden officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be at noon Friday at Robbins Funeral Home, followed by a wake from 6 until 7 p.m.
Mrs. Drake died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 86.
Mrs. Drake was a native of Yokena and a member of Mount Givens Church and St. Johns’s Burial Society. She was a homemaker and a retired housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by her husband and six bothers and sisters, including Daniel Taylor, Effie Harps and Rosie Morilla Thomas.
She is survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Carolyn Lindsey Ellis
Services for Carolyn Lindsey Ellis will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church on Lane Street with the Rev. Roosevelt Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon Saturday until the service at the church.
Mrs. Ellis died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.
A resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Ellis was a member of First Baptist Church. She was retired from Vicksburg Convalescent Home.
Her husband, Richard Ellis, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Earline Benard of Aurora, Ill.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
