[12/5/03]Cable TV customers in communities near Vicksburg have begun seeing ads about the city’s attractions that will continue for two months.
The Vicksburg-Warren Community Alliance, using allocations from the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau and the City of Vicksburg, hired Amacker Inc. of Clinton to place the ads.
Charlotte Duffey, interim director of the Alliance, said more than 897 commercial spots will be aired with 835 placed on bonus time. The remainder of the spots will be shown on networks.
Cable channels that have been selected are the History Channel, MSNBC, Food Channel, Home and Garden, A&E and the Travel Channel.
Cable companies in a 100-mile radius got the deal, including Jackson, Greenville, Greenwood, McComb, Brookhaven, Monroe and Hattiesburg-Laurel.
Vicksburg viewers may see the ads when aired on WLBT and WJTV broadcast stations.
“The theme of the ads is Get Away to Vicksburg,'” Duffey said. “We want to plant the bug in their minds that when they want a getaway we’re not that far away.”
She said the commercials will focus on the casinos, shopping, the Vicksburg National Military Park and the city’s other attractions.
The campaign will cost about $10,000, Duffey said.
