Theodis Camphor

PORT GIBSON Theodis “Billy” Camphor died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 84.

A resident of Port Gibson, Mr. Camphor was a member and deacon at Mount Burner M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Wilson-Campho; his parents, Sam and Lula Camphor; four brothers, Charlie Camphor, Sam Camphor, Joe Camphor and Jack Camphor; and four sisters, Bonnie Camphor, Josephine Camphor, Fannie Camphor and Mary Camphor.

Survivors include three daughters, Bertha Ellis of Fayette and Janice Howard and Beverly Porter, both of Port Gibson; five stepdaughters, Lillian Wesley, Geraldine Evans and Cheryl Bailes, all of Port Gibson, and Ruth Jones and India Shorter, both of Detroit; three stepsons, Frank Wilson and Earl Wilson, both of Port Gibson, and Henry Wilson of Rolling Fork; 35 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including Carrie Ellis of Vallejo, Calif.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Berner M.B. Church in Pattison with the Rev. Ray E. Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Sereptia Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at the funeral home and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.

Kenneth James Carroll

GEORGETOWN, La. Services for Kenneth James Carroll were at 11 a.m. Thursday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy McDaniel of Roxie, Miss., officiating.

Mr. Carroll died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 38.

Born in Urania, La., Mr. Carroll had been a resident of Georgetown, La., most of his life. He retired from the Navy as a logistics specialist, having served in the Persian Gulf War. He was a member of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Don and Susie Davis of Port Gibson; his father, Kenneth Carroll of Georgetown; two sisters, Teresa Earles of Ridgeland and Brandy Davis Chaney of Monroe; a brother, Shannon Davis of Monroe; his maternal grandmother, Oreatice Morstz of Pineville, La.; his paternal grandmother, Betty Davis of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Robert James Cosby

GREAT FALLS, Mont. Robert James Cosby died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, Mont. He was 59.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Cosby was a security police supervisor in the Air Force from 1962 until 1970. He worked at Phillips Refinery for a number of years and was later employed by the U.S. Postal Service. He retired in 1999 as station manager at the C.M. Russell Post Office.

Mr. Cosby was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, L.C. Cosby; and a sister, Wilima May Cosby.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Cosby of Great Falls; two daughters, Nicole Cosby and Carol Fink, both of Great Falls; a son, David Fink of Great Falls; two sisters, Mamie Watts of Detroit and Margie Davis of Buffalo, N.Y.; three brothers, James Cosby and John Cosby, both of Chicago, and Curtis Cosby of Detroit; and other relatives.

Memorial services were Dec. 5 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Great Falls. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery under the direction of O’Connor Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Peace Hospice of Montana.

Mary Ella Dee

PORT GIBSON Mary Ella Dee died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was 96.

A resident of Port Gibson, Mrs. Dee was a member and mother of Mercy Seat M.B. Church. She was a member of Ross Quarter’s Community Club, the Benevolent Society and Baptist Aid.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Dee; her parents, Mose and Ella Johnson; a daughter, Martha Alice Dee-Williams; a son, Leonard Dee; her sister, Carrie Spillman; and two grandchildren, Doris Carson and Leonard Dee.

Survivors include a daughter, Mose Ella Carpenter of Port Gibson; five grandchildren, Lillie King-Shephard of Compton, Calif., Darleen Williams, Oliver W. Williams, Cardell Williams and Mosie L. Piazza, all of Port Gibson; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Frank McGriggs officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Alphonse Larry Sr.

FAYETTE Alphonse Larry Sr. died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 60.

A resident of Fayette, Mr. Larry was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church. He worked for the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors, Town of Fayette and the Livestock Yard.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vergetter Larry.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Frye Larry of Fayette; four sons, Alphonse Larry Jr., Roy Cedric Larry and Timothy Demond Larry, all of Fayette, and Timothy Larry of Natchez; two daughters, Ta’Lia Timesha Larry of Natchez and Ro’Lesha Lashay Larry of Fayette; four brothers, Jacob Larry of Natchez, Albert Larry of Fayette, Joseph Larry of Clinton and Willie Larry of Bossier City, La.; three sisters, Josie Whiting and Clara L. Larry, both of Chicago, and Lillie Ballard of Fayette; and other relatives and friends, including Ike Banks, Delorise Frye, Carrie Tenner, Mary Ann Day, Mamie Graves and Betty Graves, all of Fayette, and Nathaniel Frye of Jackson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hollywood Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. E.E. Colenburg officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery in Fayette under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 3 until 6 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Wintson, Henry Davis, Maurice Hudson, Jerome Queen, Chester Davis and Anthony Hudson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alphonse Larry Jr., Roy Cedric Larry, Albert Larry, Jacob Larry, Timothy Larry, Timothy Demond Larry, Joseph Larry and Willie Larry.
