Carl D. Rather Jr.

Services for Carl D. Rather Jr. will be at 2 today at Fisher Funeral Home with Sam Dunaway officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Mr. Rather died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 85.

Mr. Rather was a native of Chapel Hill, Miss. He was the son of the late Carl D. Rather Sr. and Mittie Ruth Thornton Rather. He had lived in Vicksburg most of his life.

Mr. Rather was a longtime employee of Atlas Construction Co. and retired as an inspector from R.G. LeTourneau.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Elizabeth Worthy Rather, and a sister.

He is survived by two daughters, Carla Rather and Laura Hyde, both of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Lindsey Stephens and Mack D. Rather Sr., both of Vicksburg; and a great-grandson, Mack D. Rather Jr. of Vicksburg.

Pallbearers will be David Hyde, Mack Rather, Darryl Sanders, James Smith, Carl Pettway and Joe Redick.

Wallace Dale Watson

NEWELLTON Wallace Dale Watson died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at E.A. Conway Memorial Hospital in Monroe. He was 52.

A native of Ferriday, La., Mr. Watson had lived in Tensas Parish most of his life. He was an electrical contractor and plumber and member of St. Joseph Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Jiles Watson of Newellton; two daughters, Stephanie Trahan of Houma, La., and April Watson of Newellton; his mother, Velma Hale Watson of Hebert, La.; a brother, J.P. Watson Sr. of Conway, Ark.; two sisters, Vernessa McClanahan of Hebert and Ramona Gilmore of Rose Pine, La.; and five grandchildren.
