Johnnie Ruth Chambers

CHICAGO Johnnie Ruth Chambers died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at Kindred Hospital in Chicago. She was 51.

Born in Claiborne County, Mrs. Chambers lived in Chicago. She was a cafeteria attendant for the Chicago Board of Education and was a member of Mount Olive M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd D. Weddington Jr.; grandparents, Lloyd D. Weddington Sr. and Emma Snow Weddington; and her grandfather, Wade Williams.

Survivors include her husband, Curtis Chambers of Chicago; two daughters, Curtinal Chambers and Luvenia Chambers, both of Chicago; her mother, Rosalie Weddington of Port Gibson; two brothers, William Weddington and Claude Weddington, both of Port Gibson; four sisters, Loretta W. Clark and Sandra W. Jones, both of Port Gibson, Keisha W. Felton of Fayette and Barbara Thomas Parker of Baker, La.; two grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olive M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Elijah Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Carbondale Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Elmer P. Davis

OAK GROVE Elmer P. Davis died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 72.

Mr. Davis was a resident of Oak Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Eugene and Mattie Pearl Davis.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Davis of Oak Grove; a daughter, Carol Lucille Bryan of Vicksburg; two sons, Steve Davis of Monroe and Jerry Davis of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Francis Strickling of Glen Allan and Wilma Berry of Greenville; two brothers, Joe Loyd Davis of Tehachapi, Calif., and Harvey Davis of Greenville; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Revs. James Hayes and David Shiers officiating. Burial will follow at Redwing Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Reggie Black, Ty Rogers, Lofton Madden, Ricky Compton, Lawrence Berry and Lee Bryan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Kinney, Ed Stacy, Jake Compton, Sonny Wolf and Wilbert Buchanan.

Helen Ricks Scott

ST. JOSEPH Helen Ricks Scott died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, La. She was 81.

A native and lifelong resident of St. Joseph, Mrs. Scott was a homemaker.

Survivors include four sons, John Wesley Scott III of Farmington, Mo., Gerald A. Scott of St. Francisville, La., Fred E. Scott of St. Joseph and David W. Scott of Shreveport, La.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton with the Rev. Kelly Barnett officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Peter G. Strickland

Services for Peter G. “Pete” Strickland will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Riles Funeral Home with Paul Gaunt officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Strickland died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 58.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Strickland was the son of the late William Floyd and Virginia Irvin Strickland. He served in the Army during Vietnam and was a former employee of the City of Vicksburg, serving as superintendent of the Gas Department.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Vicksburg Church of Christ.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joann S. Hearn.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca H. Strickland of Vicksburg; two daughters, Rebecca Rice and Karah Strickland, both of Vicksburg; and three brothers, James Strickland and W.F. Strickland, both of Vicksburg, and Clarence Legrand of Reserve, La.

Pallbearers will be Bon Bergeron, Eddie Hill, Joe Roberts, Darrell Sorrels, Michael Sorrels and Jeremy Rice.

Helen Vivian Hinton Tricon

HATTIESBURG Helen Vivian Hinton Tricon died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. She was 83.

Mrs. Tricon was a Vicksburg resident for nearly 60 years before moving to Hattiesburg. She retired as an accountant for the Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis M. Tricon; and a sister, Faye Hinton Neal.

Survivors include two sisters, Myrtle Elizabeth Hinton Smullin of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Lucille Hinton Kolb of New Orleans; and a brother, Joseph E. Hinton of Hattiesburg.

Services were at 10 a.m. today at Highland Cemetery. Burial followed under the direction of Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.

Lucille Harlow Westmoreland

TALLULAH Lucille Harlow Westmoreland died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. She was 89.

Born in Meridian, Mrs. Westmoreland had lived in Tallulah for the past 75 years. She operated The Fisherman’s Corner Store in Tallulah for more than 45 years. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Burney Rock Westmoreland of Tallulah; three grandchildren, LeEleanor Westmoreland of Tallulah, Celeste Thames of Sondheimer and Clifford Rock Hulsey of Birmingham, Ala.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Tallulah with the Revs. Crawford Williams and John Rushing officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at her son’s home, 907 Liberty St., Tallulah.

Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
