Lorie Roland Bailey
Lorie Roland Bailey died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 37.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Bailey owned and operated Lorie Cleaning Services. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Bailey of Vicksburg; a son, Brandon Bailey of Vicksburg; a daughter, Lauren Bailey of Vicksburg; her mother, Linda T. Folden of Redwood; her father, Dean T. “Tommy” Roland of Vicksburg; one brother, Ricky Roland of Byram; and one sister, Leslie Pickett of Shreveport, La.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Roth, Mike Tanner, Mark Roland, Chris Mackey, Chris Folden, David Thrash, Paul Stokes and Scotty Standifer.
Honorary pallbearers will be the nursing staff of the fifth floor at River Region Medical Center.
Memorials may be made to the Lorie Roland Bailey Trust Fund at any branch of BancorpSouth.
Arbrette J. Canizaro
Arbrette J. Canizaro died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at her home. She was 82.
A native of South Carolina, Mrs. Canizaro lived most of her life in Vicksburg. She was an officer in the Army Air Corps, having served during World War II and was a director for Strauss-Stallings Jewelers and Joseph Canizaro Jewelers.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, the St. Paul Altar Society, the St. Aloysius and St. Francis Xavier Mother’s Club and the Vicksburg Junior Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph E. Canizaro of Vicksburg; a daughter, Norma C. Clippard of Nashville; three sons, J. Edward Canizaro of Vicksburg, J. Thomas Canizaro of Laurel and Richard E. Canizaro of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister, Iris Rodelsperder of Newberry, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.
Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Anna Mae Crosby
Services for Anna Mae Crosby were at 11 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Sibley officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Crosby died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was 91.
She was born in Sharkey County and was a longtime resident of Vicksburg. She was a homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Crosby was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Harlen and Cecil Crosby.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Harlen Cook of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Cecile Cockrell of Vicksburg; a stepson, Tom Crosby of Canton, Texas; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jim Ferguson, Junius Williams, Bill Collins, G.T. “Red” Dowdy, Herbert Stroud, Percy Worley and Talmadge Steed.
Honorary pallbearers were employees of Heritage House and Dr. Lee Giffin.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or to the Baptist Children’s Village.
Sam Edmond Sam Edmond died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 43.
Mr. Edmond was a Warren County native. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Lillie Edmond; his maternal grandparents, Sam and Hattie Lillie; and his paternal grandparents, Ed and Jennie Edmond.
He is survived by his father, John Edmond Sr. of Vicksburg; two brothers, Robert Edmond and John Edmond Jr., both of Vicksburg; and aunts, uncles and nieces.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
John R.L. Johnson
ROCKLAND, Del. John R.L. Johnson Jr. died at his home in Delaware on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003. He was 97.
Mr. Johnson was born in in Franklin, Va., and had lived in Ocean Springs, Miss.
He held degrees from the College of William and Mary and Harvard Law School and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Mr. Johnson first became associated with Hercules Powder Company in 1936 in Wilmington and was named department director and general counsel in 1949, joining the board in 1954.
He was also a board member for the College of William and Mary Alumni Society and was named to the Board of Visitors. He served as rector from 1976 to 1978 and as a trustee of the endowment association from 1967 to 1979.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Lucas Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Neill Johnson of Rockland Mills, formerly of Vicksburg; a daughter, Susan Tulloch of Lewes, Del.; two sons, DeForest Johnson of Kennett Square, Pa., and John R. L. Johnson III of Charlotte, N.C.; and two stepchildren, Brien Neill of Port Ludlow, Wash., and Laura Neill of Jackson; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was Dec. 27 at Christ Church Christiana Hundred in Greenville, Del.
