Thomas Barnes Jr.

ROLLING FORK Thomas “Tee-Tom” Barnes Jr. died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 77.

A retired farmer, Mr. Barnes was a resident of Rolling Fork. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olivia Davis Barnes; his parents, Thomas Sr. and Alice Ellis Barnes; two daughters, Alberta Rowster and Christine Myles; and three sisters, Carrie Bell Hall, Frances M. Johnson and Maggie L. Burns.

He is survived by a son, Thomas Barnes III of Valley Park; one daughter, Retha Davis of Cary; two brothers, Jimel Barnes of Clinton and Leroy Barnes of Edwards; four sisters, Mattie Hill and Judy M. Going, both of Detroit, Annie Laura Willis of Vicksburg and Katie L. Joseph of New Orleans; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

William David Bruce

William David Bruce died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 55.

Born in Columbus, Miss., Mr. Bruce had lived in Vicksburg for most of his life. He was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church. He was a former tennis coach and teacher at Vicksburg High School and instructor at the Center for Alternative Programs.

He was preceded in death by his father, William F. Bruce.

Survivors include his mother, Bonny B. Bruce of Vicksburg; a sister, Barbara B. Applebaum of Vicksburg; and a nephew, Chad Applebaum of Vicksburg.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service on the second floor of Wesley Hall at the church.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Maggie R. Burks

EDWARDS Maggie R. Burks died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 47.

Mrs. Burks was a resident of Edwards.

She is survived by her son, Bruce Burks of Edwards; a daughter, Carman Burks of Jackson; three brothers, Tommy Burks Jr. and Michael Burks, both of Edwards, and Donald R. Burks of San Bernardino, Calif.; four sisters, Patricia Burks of Jackson and Bertie Burks, Almeta Burks and Lottie B. Williams, all of Edwards; and other relatives and friends.

Lakeview Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Arbrette J. Canizaro

Services for Arbrette J. Canizaro will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Farrell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home, followed by a wake at 7.

Mrs. Canizaro died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at her home. She was 82.

A native of South Carolina, she lived most of her life in Vicksburg. She was an officer in the Army Air Corps, having served during World War II and was a director for Strauss-Stallings Jewelers and Joseph Canizaro Jewelers.

She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, the St. Paul Altar Society, the St. Aloysius and St. Francis Xavier Mother’s Club and the Vicksburg Junior Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph E. Canizaro of Vicksburg; a daughter, Norma C. Clippard of Nashville; three sons, J. Edward Canizaro of Vicksburg, J. Thomas Canizaro of Laurel and Richard E. Canizaro of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister, Iris Rodelsperder of Newberry, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Joseph C. Canizaro, Robert H. Canizaro, Vito Canizaro, James Frances Canizaro, Thomas Canizaro, Anthony Canizaro, Roy Canizaro, Marion Canizaro and Dr. Edward Rodelsperder.

Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Katzenmeyer, Jerry Derivaux, John Hennessey, Lesta Lee, Randall Dillon, Dr. Paul Pierce, James Shoemaker, D.P. Sam Edmond

Services for Sam Edmond will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert L. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Edmond died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 43.

A Warren County native, he was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Lillie Edmond; his maternal grandparents, Sam and Hattie Lillie; and his paternal grandparents, Ed and Jennie Edmond.

He is survived by his father, John Edmond Sr. of Vicksburg; two brothers, Robert Edmond and John Edmond Jr., both of Vicksburg; and aunts, uncles and nieces.
