Maggie R. Burks

EDWARDS Services for Maggie R. Burks will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill M.B. Church in Bolton. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Burks died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 47.

Mrs. Burks was a resident of Edwards.

She is survived by her son, Bruce Burks of Edwards; a daughter, Carman Burks of Jackson; three brothers, Tommy Burks Jr. and Michael Burks, both of Edwards, and Donald R. Burks of San Bernardino, Calif.; four sisters, Patricia Burks of Jackson and Bertie Burks, Almeta Burks and Lottie B. Williams, all of Edwards; and other relatives and friends.

Andrew James Harris

Services for Andrew James “Sonny” Harris will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Bernard officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Harris died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 52.

He was a member of Traveler’s Rest M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew James Robinson; and his maternal grandparents, Roosevelt Patterson Sr. and Zadie Gaines Patterson.

Mr. Harris is survived by his mother, Bertha M. Harris of Vicksburg; an uncle, James Patterson of Vicksburg; eight aunts, Shirley Green of Fayette, Rosie Lee Fells of Gulfport, Lula Mae Wilson of Shreveport, Annette Cruell, Viola Jones and Carlee Harried-Waites, all of New Orleans, and Juanita Brown and Azel Hutchians, both of Chicago.

Rogelio Hernandez

LAKE PROVIDENCE Rogelio “Roy” Hernandez died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. He was 58.

Born in Edcouch, Texas, Mr. Hernandez was a resident of Lake Providence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Augustine Sildonia Hernandez.

He is survived by three sons, Rogelio “Roy” Hernandez Jr., Richard Hernandez and Ryan Hernandez, all of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Ray Hernandez and Rene Hernandez, both of Lake Providence; three sisters, Delfina Cotts of Lake Providence, Mary Villarreal of Edcouch and Tommie Perez of La Feria, Texas; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lake Providence with the Rev. Job Edathinattu officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 9 tonight at Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence with rosary at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Kik Hernandez, Ryan Hernandez, Jose Hernandez, Richard Hernandez, Roy Hernandez, Roland Hernandez and Jessie Lopez.

Spencer Jasper

COWARD, S.C. Spencer “Bill” Jasper died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, in Florence, S.C. He was 72.

A native of Vicksburg, Mr. Jasper was the son of the late Spencer Sr. and Mary Jasper. He served 22 years in the Armed Forces, retiring as a sergeant first class. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star medals.

For 20 years, he was superintendent of transportation for the South Carolina Department of Corrections in Columbia. He was a life member of VFW Post 4262 in Columbia and was a resident of Coward, S.C.

Survivors include his wife, Grace H. Jasper; four daughters, Linda Jackson, Gloria Jasper Branch, Zelma Jasper and Regina Y. Jasper; a stepdaughter, Tracy Hannah; one son, Spencer Jasper III; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at noon Friday at Olive Grove Baptist Church in Coward, S.C. Burial with full military honors will follow at Florence National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 until 8 tonight at Ideal Funeral Parlor in Florence.

Mary Louise Love

Services for Mary Louise Love will be at 1 p.m. Friday at 61 North Bypass Church of Christ with Willie James Nettle officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Givens Cemetery in Yokena.

Visitation will be from 2 until 6 p.m. today at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Love died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at her home in Vicksburg. She was 71.

Born in Warren County, Mrs. Love was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Reed; two sons, David Lee Love and Julius Love; two brothers, L.C. Love and Tony Hatton; two sisters, Willie B. Love and Freddie Mae Hatton; and her parents, Julius Love and Lena Mae Galloway Hatton.

She is survived by two sons, Michael James Reed and Eugene A. Love, both of Vicksburg; six daughters, Diane Williams, Mary Love, Catherine Love Turner, Irma L. Love, Debra Ann Love and Monica Denise Love, all of Vicksburg; one brother, Henry Hatton of Vicksburg; two sisters, Willie Dean Hatton and Betty Joe Oby, both of Baton Rouge; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including members of the Griffin and Galloway families of Vicksburg.
