John W. Carsley

John W. Carsley died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 82.

Born in Bolton, Mr. Carsley had lived in Vicksburg for the past 54 years. He was in the Army in World War II and was a member of Wilderness Baptist Church. He retired from Waterways Experiment Station.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Elwood Carsley, George Carsley and Ed Carsley.

He is survived by his wife, Hallie M. Carsley of Vicksburg; a son, Don Jennings Carsley of Vicksburg; a daughter, Brenda Sue Macon of Baton Rouge; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Bobby Conrad officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be John Sanders, William Cox, David Baggett, Randy Macon, George Purvis and Paul Moore.

Joe Willie Franklin

LORMAN Joe Willie Franklin died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at his home in Lorman. He was 49.

Mr. Franklin was a former employee of Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant, G.B. Boots and Smith Corporation Highway Construction.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, LaShonda Thompson; and his father, Joe Franklin.

Survivors include his mother, Annie Mae Franklin; four sons, Tyrone Polk of Vicksburg, Dekota Barnes of Tomball, Texas, and Renard and Benard Thompson, both of Lorman; a daughter, Tammie Franklin of Vicksburg; five sisters, Mary Alice Green, Lynda Franklin-Smith, Sandra Clark, Bertha Franklin and Samantha Jackson; three brothers, Robert Franklin of Kansas City, Mo., Carl Franklin of Natchez and Larry Franklin of Chicago; three grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Evelyn Thomas.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Christian Church in Lorman with the Rev. Melvin White officiating. Burial will follow at East Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 until 6 tonight at the funeral home, with family hour from 6 until 7, and from noon until the service Saturday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Carl Belle, Garrett Bell, Michael Brown, Tony Brown, Albert Coleman, Louis Green Jr. and Tommy Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Clark, Carl Franklin, Larry Franklin, Robert Franklin, Louis Green Sr., Robert Jackson and Tyrone Polk.

Alice Collie HowardDELHI Alice Collie Howard died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004. She was 72.

Mrs. Howard was born in Ruston, La., to Algie and Lucelia Collie. She graduated from high school in Choudrant, La., and received a degree from Louisiana Tech University. She taught in Springhill, La., before moving to Delhi, where she taught first grade for more than 25 years and retired in 1986.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Delhi, teaching Sunday school and participating in the W.M.U. She was a charter member of the Beta Iota chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma honorary educational sorority. She was also a charter member of Delhi Hospital Auxiliary.

Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Stephen Michael Howard; a sister, Marme Stephenson; and a brother, John Bill Collie.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, John Howard of Delhi; a son, Wayne Edward Howard of Cochrane, Alberta, Canada; a sister, Florence Johnston; and four grandchildren.

Services were at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Delhi with Dr. Marcus Murphy and the Rev. Everett Geis officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. today at New Hope Cemetery in Choudrant with the Rev. Connie Ward officiating.

Pallbearers will be Milton Linder, Bud LaPrarie, Don Cheek and the deacons of First Baptist Church of Delhi.

Cox Funeral Home of Delhi has charge of arrangements.

Lahmon SmithEmma L. ThomasUTICA Emma L. Thomas died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 84.

A homemaker, Mrs. Thomas was a former resident of Utica.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion M.B. Church in Utica. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Westhaven Funeral Home Inc. in Utica has charge of arrangements.
