Jessie Sanders Jr.

LOS ANGELES Jessie “June” Sanders Jr. died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Gardena Memorial Hospital in California. He was 53.

Mr. Sanders was a resident of Los Angeles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ella Mae and Jessie Sanders Sr.; three brothers, Henry Erves, Lexington “Bob” Scott and A.J. Bruce; and a grandchild.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris Sanders Gonzales of Philadelphia, Pa.; a son, Jessie Janari Sanders of Los Angeles; one brother, Charles Henry Sanders of Vicksburg; five sisters, Mary Hodges and Estella Moore, both of Aurora, Ill., Martha Mott of Danville, Ill., Thelma McGee of Raymond, and Seatress Sanders of Paramount, Calif.; three grandchildren; and other relatives, including Roberta Sanders and William Washington, both of Vicksburg.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Baptist Church of the New Covenant in Norwalk, Calif. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Simpson Mortuary in Inglewood, Calif.

Mary McCann Shelton

Mary McCann Shelton died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.

Mrs. Shelton was the daughter of the late Ernal and Ethel Foster McCann. She was a native of Rarden, Ohio, and had lived in Vicksburg since 1980.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Linder, and two brothers, Ford McCann and Cliff McCann.

She is survived by her husband, John Shelton; a daughter, Terry Welch of Vicksburg; three brothers, Robert McCann of Portsmouth, Ohio, James McCann of Morrow, Ohio, and Thomas McCann of Cincinnati; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and other relatives.

Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Francis Marvin Vining

BYRAM Francis Marvin Vining died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004. He was 67.

A resident of Byram, Mr. Vining was formerly of Monticello, La. He was an attorney and scientific tomato grower.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Lorena Vining; two brothers, Glen Vining and Bill Vining; and one sister, Alice Orr.

Survivors include his wife, Daphene Vining; one son, Lonnie Marvin Vining; two sisters, Genie Sessums and Floyce Hawsey Roundtree; and one brother, Clifford Vining.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home of Delhi with the Rev. John Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Forest, La.

Pallbearers will be Paul McClain, Doug McClain, Clifton Vining, Billy Vining, the Rev. Chad Ballard and Jerry Waites.

Wesley Wilson

Wesley Wilson died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 76.

A native of Claiborne County, Mr. Wilson had lived most of his life in Vicksburg and Warren County. He was the son of the late Lonnie Lee and Mary Elizabeth Jobe Wilson.

He worked as a machinist at LeTourneau, retiring in 1990 after 42 years. A golfer, he was a member of the Quarter Century Club at LeTourneau.

He was a member of Redbone United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher and president of the United Methodist Men’s Organization. He also was caretaker of the church cemetery for more than 35 years.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by a son, Alan Wilson; and a sister, Edna Sorrels.

Survivors include his wife, Mavis M. Wilson of Vicksburg; one daughter, Judy W. Chamberlain of Georgetown, Texas; one son, Dan E. Wilson of Vicksburg; four sisters, Susie Rigby of Carpenter, Maxine Clark of Carlisle, Bernice Morrison of Florence and Faye Horton of Clinton; a brother, James Wilson of Hermanville; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Hart, pastor of Redbone United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Van Rigby Jr., Jared Morrison, Marty Crevitt, Toby Wilson, Lee Clark and Dr. Tommy Horton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Kelly, Tommy Herrod, Dan Marble, Bowie Lanford, Chester Day, Cecil Geter, Larry Wagner and Bill Lindsey.

James E. Young III

PORT GIBSON James E. Young III died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at his home. He was 52.

A native of Gadsden, Ala., Mr. Young had been a Port Gibson resident for the past 30 years. He was a pipefitter apprentice and worked for Bechtel Co. during the construction of Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Disharoon Young; and his grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda A. Young of Port Gibson; his father, James E. Young Jr. of Rockport, Texas; one sister, Ellen Aiken of Gadsden; and a niece, two nephews and other relatives, including Bessie Mae Anderson of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Toby Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be today until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Keith Green, Glenn Green, Sam Scarber, Carroll Anderson, Neil Roberson, Shane Green and Buddy Aiken.
