Halvor E. Hude

GERMANTOWN, Tenn. Retired Lt. Col. Halvor E. Hude died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Methodist Germantown Hospital. He was 80.

Lt. Col. Hude was born in Shreveport and grew up in Vicksburg. He was retired as a nuclear weapons officer in the Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Rose Hude.

He is survived by two sons, Hal Hude Jr. of Germantown and Gary Hude of Orange, Texas; one daughter, Linda Young of Salem, Ore.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Werkoven officiating.

Burial will be Feb. 27 at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

Visitation will be at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave., from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday.

Bobby Brandon McCall

OAK GROVE Bobby Brandon “Rosco” McCall died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004. He was 23.

Mr. McCall was born in Bastrop, La., and lived in Oak Grove.

He is survived by his parents, Bobby Gene and Jeanie Mae McCall of Oak Grove; one son, Bobby Garrett Hale of Bastrop; one daughter, Madison Blair Ogmibene of Hammond, La.; four brothers, Jesse James Caston, Frank James Caston and Sonny James Caston, all of St. Francisville and Cookie Caston of Oak Grove; and three sisters, Gina Sue Albus of Pampa, Texas, Vickie Ann Bible of Mer Rouge, La., and Carla Leigh Guice of Oak Grove.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Chapel with the Revs. David Shiers and Keith Riley officiating. Burial will follow at Red Wing Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Fife, Carl Hughes, Brandon Bullock, Scott Kimball, Jim Gaston and D.J. Mayhall.

Honorary pallbearers will be Shadow Caston, Jimmy Guice, Logan Guice, Saber Caston, Jesse Dewayne Caston, Jason Roberts and William Clark.

Lawrence Newman

Lawrence Newman died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at his home. He was 86.

Mr. Newman was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Laura Freeman Walker; and three brothers, including the Rev. Hardie Lewis of Vicksburg.

He is survived by one niece, Janice Winters of Vicksburg, one nephew, Hardie Lewis Jr. of Vicksburg, and other relatives, including the Cook, Rush and Walker families.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Steven Troy Noble

Steven Troy Noble died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004. He was 44.

Mr. Noble was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He had worked with Ergon as a riverboat pilot for 18 years and previously with Channel Fueling for four years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Troy B. Noble.

He is survived by his two sons, Bradley T. “Brad” Noble and Craig F. Noble, both of Vicksburg; his mother, Madeline F. Noble of Vicksburg; a brother, David Noble of Brandon; and three sisters, Linda Biedenharn and Lori Rushing, both of Vicksburg, and Lisa Chase of Dickson, Tenn.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Chapel with the Rev. James Biedenharn officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon Monday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Harvey Mathes, Wayne Rowell, Steven Ellis, George Ezell, Jamie Jabour, David McKinney and Rickey Gilcrease.

Willie G. Qualls Sr.

Willie G. Qualls Sr. died Friday, Jan. 24, 2004, at his home. He was 54.

Mr. Qualls was born in Tutwiler and lived in Vicksburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, McKinley and Essie Mae Ross Qualls.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Early Qualls; four sons, Willie G. Qualls Jr., Andrew Early, Robert Early and Leroy Early, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Mary Qualls Harris and Courtney Denise Qualls, both of Vicksburg; eight brothers, McKinley Qualls Jr., Charles Qualls, John L. Qualls, Robert Qualls and Jerry Qualls, and Sammy Brown, all of Vicksburg, and Roosevelt Qualls of Clarksdale; nine sisters, Ora Lee Jackson, Shirley Vample, Lena Mae Qualls, Luler Qualls, Irene Nelson and Minnie Mae Johnson and Letha Mae Trisby, all of Vicksburg, Annie Bell Sylvester of Valley Park and Mary Ann Hamlin of Starkville; and 18 grandchildren.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Ellen Querrey

TALLULAH Ellen “Sis” Querrey died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at her home. She was 84.

Mrs. Querrey was born in Woodfield Township in Greene County, Ill., and lived in Tallulah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Evelina and Benjamin Black and by her husband, W.H. “Bill” Querrey.

She is survived by one son, Billy Querrey; one daughter, Gwen McConnell; two sisters, Helen Handlin and Mary Whitlock; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Crawford Williams and John Rushing officiating. Burial will be at Friends Creek Cemetery in Argenta, Ill.

Visitation will be at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home from 5 until 7 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or to Hospice Care Services at P.O. Box 268, Winnsboro, La., 71295.

Pallbearers will be Mike James, Bill Windham, Todd Windham, Charles Querrey, Bill Querrey, Donnie Ater, Al Ater and Ed Ater.

Honorary pallbearers will be W.A. “Billy” Windham, R.K. “Bob” Laird, Ronnie Holloway, James Reeves and Mike Murphy.
