[1/28/04]PASCAGOULA Kristin Gough is used to winning.

She won three state championships as a player, had a standout career playing Southeastern Conference soccer in college, and has now led Warren Central to its first playoff win in years.

Megan Wolebon’s goal 10 minutes into the second half was all the Lady Vikes needed in a 1-0 win over Pascagoula. The victory means WC will host Long Beach on Saturday in the second round of the playoffs.

“I told my team before the game to play hard and I’d be proud of them no matter what happened,” Gough said. “We’re young and inexperienced.”

Wolebon scored on a set play when Valera Vollor threw the ball into the middle of the field and Wolebon put a shot over goalie Christina Duvall’s head.

“Coach Gough told me to get into the middle,’ Wolebon said. “Valera threw the ball to my feet, I nailed it. It was a perfect play.”

Pascagoula and Warren Central played a scoreless first half, but both had chances to take a 1-0 lead at intermission.

Kristen Panter and Megan Morie each narrowly missed three scoring chances for the Lady Panthers.

Warren Central’s best chance for a goal was stopped by a practice ball near the net with six minutes left before halftime.

Pascagoula coach Eddie Burgo made no excuses for the Lady Panthers (12-8-1).

“We had our chances, but didn’t follow through,” Burgo said. “We gave it our best shot. It was a great game on both sides.”

Kistler scored twice, while Ryan Zelenka and Brett Clifton each added a goal.
