[2/2/04]The Porters Chapel Academy Eagles are coming off a 30-point loss and heading into what may be their final game of the season Tuesday night against archrival Tallulah Academy.

In other words, they’re right where they want to be.

The Eagles (12-12) will host Tallulah at 8:30 p.m. in the first round of the Conference 5-A tournament. PCA’s girls will also play Tallulah on Tuesday, at 7 p.m.

The tournament begins today at 4 when Briarfield faces Humphreys in a first-round girls’ game. The PCA boys are coming off a 70-38 pounding by No. 1 seed Franklin, but they are still confident. Earlier this season, the Eagles lost 73-43 to Franklin and then ripped off six straight wins.

“One thing we have done every single time we lost, is come back and play better the next game,” PCA coach Kevin Griffin said. “And if the pattern holds true, that’s what we’ll do in this one.”

While the PCA boys are eager to play Tallulah, the Lady Eagles’ matchup with the Lady Trojans is less desirable.

PCA (17-12) eked out a six-point win in the teams’ first meeting in December, then rallied from a 17-point, third-quarter deficit to win by four points on Jan. 23.

Tallulah’s height advantage gives it an edge over the smaller Lady Eagles, Griffin said, and should provide another tough game this time.
