Mildred Lucille Britt
NEWELLTON Mildred Lucille Britt died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Franklin Medical Center. She was 82.
Mrs. Britt was a homemaker and a resident of Newellton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Quitman Britt; a son, J. Kenneth Britt; her parents, Adam Earl and Anna Oglesby Bellis; and a brother, Charles Bellis.
Survivors include two sons, Edwin Britt and Eugene “Dino” Britt, both of Newellton; a brother, Dr. James E. Bellis; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and others, including Molly Wesley.
Services were at 11 a.m. today at Newellton First Baptist Church with the Revs. Fulton McGraw, Paul Kolb and Anthony Strawder officiating. Burial followed at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Pallbearers were Jeff Britt, Tim Britt, Jay Britt, Kevin Britt, Clay Winters, Joe Sontoyo and Artis James.
Honorary pallbearers will be Zack Britt, Dustin Britt, Elliot Britt, Austin Britt and Mason Britt.
JoAnn Dickinson
WILLOWS JoAnn Dickinson died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at her home in the Willows community. She was 70.
A native of Hermanville, Ms. Dickinson had been a resident of the Willows community in Claiborne County most of her life. She had prepared income tax returns for the past 53 years and was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by three sons, Donald “Duck” Dickinson and William Bruce Dickinson, both of Willows; a daughter, Linda Gayle Bailey of Pattison; six brothers, Theodore Williams of McNeill, Emett Bruce Williams of Covington, La., James Earl Williams of Bentonia, John M. Williams of Byram, Herbert D. Williams of Willows and Ronny Williams of Yazoo City; a sister, Martha Klingler of Willows; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. Michael McKnight officiating. Burial will follow at Hermanville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be her nephews and Jerry Messer.
Leroy Norman Famula
TRANSYLVANIA, La. Leroy Norman Famula died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004. He was 76.
Mr. Famula was born in Pocahontas, Ill. He was a member of Transylvania Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Madewell Famula, and two brothers, Raymond Famula and Edward Famula.
He is survived by two daughters, Maria Kindrix of Lufkin, Texas, and Marcia Stuart of Manassas, Va.; and three sisters, MaryBelle Ahlin of Deltona, Fla., Dottie McCloud of Bartlesville, Okla., and Vera Osment of Clearwater, Kan.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Transylvania Baptist Church with the Rev. James Hayes officiating. Burial will be at the Lake Providence City Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Lake Providence.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 tonight at the church.
Kenneth L. Jones
EDWARDS Kenneth L. Jones died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at his home in Edwards. He was 33.
Mr. Jones was a member of Shiloh M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Willie Mae Jones; his grandparents, Willie and Margaret Jones Harris; and a brother, Julius Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Vinetta Thompson Jones of Edwards; three daughters, Allison Thompson and Keneisha Jones, both of Edwards, and Kendra M. Newton of Vicksburg; two sons, Kenneth Jones Jr. of Edwards and Kenneth Bland of Madison; five sisters, Carla Jones and Sharon King, both of Vicksburg, Jackie McCall and Tonya Johnson, both of Muskegan Heights, Mich., and Marita Smith of Edwards; five brothers, Clifton Johnson, Arnold Johnson and Zackary Johnson, all of Muskegan Heights, Oscar Jones of Jackson and Patrick Mack Sr. of Edwards; his grandmothers, Hazel Harris of Vicksburg, Jennie Mae Lighter of Utica and Ethel Carter of Edwards; and other relatives and friends.
Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Mary Terrell Persons McGriggs
UTICA Mary Terrell Persons McGriggs died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at her home in Utica. She was 94.
Mrs. McGriggs was a member of St. Peter M.B. Church, where she served as a church mother, Interment Committee chairman and senior choir member. With her husband, she owned and operated Ed’s Auto Repair in Utica for years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Edwin David McGriggs of Utica; three nephews, John Bernard Jr. of Detroit, Alfred McGriggs of Utica and Elbert McGriggs of Washington, D.C.; three nieces, Linda Bernard and Sharon Bernard, both of Detroit, and Johnnie Anna Gray of Washington, D.C.; and friends and other relatives, including Willie E. McGriggs of Utica.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter M.B. Church in Utica with the Rev. Rodney Devinity officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.
