Moddess Mullanix McDonald

OAK GROVE Moddess Mullanix McDonald died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at West Carroll Care Center. She was 89.

Mrs. McDonald was born in Converse, La., and moved with her husband to West Carroll Parish in 1939.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl McDonald; her son, Maurice McDonald; four brothers; and one sister.

She is survived by a sister, Virgie Boyte of Ruston, La.; a brother, Sam Mullanix of Shreveport; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including Mattie Rae Strong.

Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Green Chapel Church of God with the Rev. William Moden officiating. Burial followed at Red Wing Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove.

Pallbearers were Richard Strong, Richie Strong, Roy Dosher, Jerry Dosher, Mike Moden and Dale Williams.

Toni T. Prather

ROXIE Toni T. Prather died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Franklin County Hospital. She was 75.

Mrs. Prather was born in Stuttart, Germany, to Erwin and Maria Goppinger. A homemaker, she was a resident of Roxie and a member of Elmo Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William Logan and Harvey Prather Sr.; one sister; and a stepson.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Farrell of Roxie; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Ellen Harrigill, Mary Ann Buckles and Harvey Prather Jr., all of Roxie.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elmo Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 tonight at Franklin Funeral Home in Roxie and from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the service at the church.

Orie O’Neal Screws

HOLLY BLUFF Orie O’Neal Screws died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 92.

Mr. Screws was born in Sharkey County to Bessie Potter and E.G. Screws. He was a retired farmer and operator for Yazoo County. A resident of Holly Bluff, he was a member of the Church of God.

He was preceded in death by a son, Troy Screws; three grandchildren; and nine siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Mable Screws of Holly Bluff; three daughters, Peggy Jackson of Yazoo City, Mickey Laney of Eagle Lake and Jennie Watson of Holly Bluff; and eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Stricklin-King Funeral Home in Yazoo City with the Revs. A.J. Dewberry and Doris Leist officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy Ray Pugh, Douglas Moore, Ellis Screws, William Dorris, Russell Hatchett, Sonny Cliborn, Jimmy Huff and Roy Watson.

Memorials may be made to the Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Center in Greenville.

Minnie Reaves Stokes

LOUISVILLE, Miss. Minnie Reaves Stokes died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 80.

A resident of Louisville, Miss., Mrs. Stokes was a homemaker and member of Vernon Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert V. Stokes; a daughter, Evelyn Stokes; a son, Darrel Stokes; and one granddaughter, Sherri Craft.

She is survived by four daughters, Dorothy Livingston of Vicksburg, Becky Hatcher of Rolling Fork and Betty Pecanty of Vidalia, La.; one son, Milton Stokes of Greenville, Tenn.; a sister, Mamie Clark of Louisville; and 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services were at 11 a.m. today at Vernon Assembly of God Church. Burial followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Nowell-Tilghman Funeral Home in Louisville.

Pallbearers were Dr. Michael Baker, Dwight Baker, Robert Stokes, Darin Pecanty, Robert Monk and Joe Irvin.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Lee Giffin, members of the Roberson family, and the staff of River Region, Trace Haven Nursing Home and Mission Primary Care.
