Mary Josephine Adcock

Mary Josephine Adcock died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at her home. She was 69.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Miss Adcock was the daughter of the late Russell Lucian and Ruby Eunice Wright Adcock. She was a graduate of Hinds High School and had attended Hinds Junior College. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Vicksburg.

She is survived by three aunts, Ethel W. Lowe of Clinton, Murle Weeks of Natchez and Mary Cloud of Jackson; an uncle, Clyde Wright of Vicksburg; and nieces and nephews.

Services were at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Jim Hess officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Thad S. Bridges Sr.

Thad S. Bridges Sr. died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was 54.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Bridges was a 1971 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Banking and Finance. He served as a trustee at Pearl River Valley Baptist Church in Monticello. He was the business manager of Central Mississippi Health Services and was responsible for reopening the Arenia Mallory Health Center.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Willie Mae Bridges.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Joyce Mathis Bridges of Vicksburg; his father, Edgar Bridges Sr. of Monticello; three sons, Thad S. Bridges Jr., Nicholas L. Bridges and Michael Whitfield; a daughter, Candice Mathis Bridges; five brothers, Alvin Bridges, Carvin L. Bridges, Edgar Bridges Jr., Louis D. Bridges and Amos D. Bridges; six sisters, Erma Nell Magee, Golda Franklin, Eleanor Bridges Brown, Carolyn Ross, W. Ann Bridges Peyton and Betty Jean Bridges Wright; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at M.W. Stringer Grand Lodge Temple in Jackson. Burial will follow at Pearl River Valley Church Cemetery under the direction of Tyler Funeral Home in Brookhaven.

Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. Thursday until the service in Jackson.

Andrea Donyelle Dent

Andrea Donyelle “Donnie” Dent died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 22.

A resident of Vicksburg, Miss Dent was a clerk at the Isle of Capri Hotel and was a member of Faith Christian Center.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Curtis L. Dent.

Survivors include a daughter, Gabrielle A. Dent of Vicksburg; her parents, Belton P. Dent Sr. and Carolyn R. Dent, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Adrian R. Dent of Clinton and Angela R. Dent of Vicksburg; and aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Josephine Hunt

PORT GIBSON Josephine Hunt died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 85.

Miss Hunt was a resident of Port Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Dillia Shaw-Hunt.

Survivors include a son, Johnny Robinson of Port Gibson; two sisters, Isophine Dee of Jackson and Rachel Harris of Roxie; grandchildren, including Tonia Holmes whom she reared; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends, including Willie Ruth Wilson of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rising Sun M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at the Hunt Family Cemetery in Roxie under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the service Thursday at the church.

Dorothy E. Parker

Dorothy E. “Dot” Parker died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 61.

Born in Warren County, Mrs. Parker was the daughter of William “Bill” and Margaret Matthews Burton. She was a licensed practical nurse and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Leon Parker of Vicksburg; a daughter, Bonita “Bonnie” Parker of Vicksburg; an uncle, James R. Hartley of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; two nephews and a niece.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Anderson, pastor of Satartia Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jinx Smith, J.O. Smith III, Patrick Smith, Sonny Carley, Sidney Parker and Greg Bryan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Betty Blackledge and employees of the dredge, Jadwin, and the mat sinking unit.

Christine Calvert Tatum

Christine Calvert Tatum died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Vicksburg Trace Haven Care Facility. She was 63.

Born in Quitman, Mrs. Tatum had been a Vicksburg resident since 1984. She retired in 1994 as office manager for Union Compress in Vicksburg. She was a member of the Adult 6 Sunday school department at First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Tillman Calvert; and a brother, Alfred Ray Calvert.

Survivors include her husband, Ron Tatum of Vicksburg; a son, Ronald Vane Tatum of Milan, Tenn.; a daughter, Laurie Tatum McAfee of Pine Bluff, Ark.; her mother, Edna Whitworth Calvert of Crowder; a sister, Nancy Calvert Moyer of Marks; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. Gordon Sansing officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Calvert, Steve Calvert, Brian Calvert, Ricky Bridges, Jay McAfee and Kenny Hodnick.
