Lincoln Adams

Services for Lincoln Adams will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Calvary M.B. Church, 1350 East Ave., with the Rev. Mincer Minor officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 until 6 today at the funeral home with family hour from 6 until 7 and from 10 a.m. Friday until the service at the church.

Mr. Adams died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 78.

Born in Tallulah, Mr. Adams was retired from Miller Construction. He served in the Army in World War II. He was a member of St. John Lodge No. 181 AF&AM and Mount Calvary M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Blackmore Adams; his parents, Clay Sr. and Matha Taylor Adams; and a brother, Clay Adams Jr.

He is survived by one daughter, Joan D. Adams of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Gwendolyn B. Jones of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a stepson, Richard E. Blackmore of Ennis, Texas; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Essex Brandon

Services for Essex Brandon will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Triumph M.B. Church with the Rev. Larry Nicks officiating. Burial will follow at McCay Cemetery in Russum under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mr. Brandon died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 72.

A native of Port Gibson, Mr. Brandon was a longtime resident of Vicksburg. He was a self-employed logger and a member of Triumph M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris Brandon of Vicksburg; a son, Tyrone Ross of Vicksburg; a daughter, Brenda Carson of Vicksburg; three sisters, Faley Lee Weathersby of Hattiesburg, Rosie Moore of New Orleans and Benita Judge of Toledo, Ohio; two brothers, Tullos Brandon and William Brandon, both of Port Gibson; a grandchild; and other relatives, including members of the Ross, Sims and Carson families.

Barry James Burks

PORT GIBSON Barry James Burks died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 52.

Mr. Burks was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew Burks Sr. and Mary Lee Tolliver Burks.

He is survived by a son, Barry J. Burks Jr. of Denton, Texas; a daughter, Pamela D. Burks of Port Gibson; three brothers, James D. Burks and Sherman Burks, both of Oakland, Calif., and Matthew Burks of Dayton, Ohio; three sisters, Emma R. Warner and Marrietta Thornton, both of Port Gibson, and Frances Jones of Oakland; and uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Ray Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Carbondale Cemetery in Lorman.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Francis Eugene Gartrell

JACKSON Francis Eugene Gartrell died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. He was 90.

Born in Nesbitt, Miss., Mr. Gartrell was the son of the late Francis Eugene Gartrell Sr. and Gladys Williamson Gartrell. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University, Harvard and Johns Hopkins University. He worked for TVA in the Public Health Division and retired in 1973 with 37 years of service. He had lived in Jackson since 1980.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Lee Gartrell.

Survivors include his wife, Bettye J. Gartrell; two daughters, Frances Gartrell Gaddis of Vicksburg and Lucy Caldwell Elliot of London, England; a son, William Jackson Coleman of Alexandria, Va.; his brother, George Gartrell of Meridian; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian with Steve Mainous, pastor of New Life Church in Vicksburg, and the Rev. Paul Means of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Jackson officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by a prayer service.

Pallbearers will be John Gartrell, Alan Gartrell, Monroe Gartrell, Tom Brabston, Bill Hopper and Jack Coleman.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Price, Jack Grogan, C.S. Kincaid, Ruth Jackson, Frances Smith and Roxie Walker.

Walter Aloys Krueger

Services for Walter Aloys Krueger were at 2 p.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. P.J. Curley officiating. Burial followed at Edwards Cemetery.

Mr. Krueger died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at his home. He was 68.

He was a native of St. Joseph. He was a retired, self-employed carpenter who had lived in Vicksburg since 1972. He was a 30-year member of St. Michael Catholic Church and a veteran of the Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aloys and Johanna Krueger; and one sister, Rose Atwood.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Krueger of Vicksburg; two daughters, Lisa Morton of Delran, N.J., and Alison Rouse of Montgomery, Ala.; and one grandson, Walter Alexander Rouse of Montgomery.

Pallbearers were Robert Atwood, Jesse Atwood, Chris Antoine, Malcolm Antoine, Ed Clark, James Dixon, Rudolph Lemke and Bob Sturm.

Honorary pallbearers were Rudy Krueger, Harris Lemke, Tom Lemke, Gary Sturm and friends of the building profession.
