[2/18/04]Warren County supervisors have decided to follow the City of Vicksburg and several local government entities into cyberspace.

Board members voted Tuesday to seek proposals for someone to create a county Web site.

In January, District 4 Supervisor Carl Flanders, after being sworn in for his first term, began talking with other board members about the idea. He said it would be a good way for county residents to get information on what the county is doing. District 1 Supervisor David McDonald agreed to work with Flanders on the project.

“What I would like to do right now is to communicate to the public that we are now accepting proposals for work to develop a Web site for Warren County,” Flanders said at Tuesday’s meeting.

He said they wanted to develop a 35- to 40-page site that is fully interactive.

“We would like anybody interested to submit a letter of interest and a reference or references to work you have done that is already on line or in a CD format, an example of your that you have done previously,” he said.

Those who wish to submit the letters of interest have until 5 p.m. Feb. 27 to get them to the board of supervisors at the board’s office at 913 Jackson St. or by e-mail at wcboard@co.warren.ms.us.

Vicksburg’s Web site contains the city’s code of ordinances, tourist information links, schedules of city events and services and lists of city job openings. Other local Web sites include the Vicksburg Warren School District’s, which has won several state and regional awards, the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Vicksburg National Military Park and the office of District Attorney Gil Martin.
