Charles H. Barnes Sr.
OAK GROVE Charles H. Barnes Sr., died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at East Carroll Parish Hospital in Lake Providence. He was 78.
Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Lavene Barnes; and his parents, James Palmer and Estella Barnes.
He is survived by a son, Charles H. Barnes Jr., of Deer Park, Texas; a brother, J.P. “Tootie” Barnes Jr. of Oak Grove; a sister, Essie Mae Crum of Covington, Tenn.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Chad Ballard officiating. Burial will follow at the New Forest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Van Dine, Vendal Fairchild, Kenneth Fairchild, Joe Womack, Malcolm Womack, Don Catron, Franz Roka, Ronnie Crum and Corkey Clowes.
Tricia Bell Barnes
Tricia Bell Barnes died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at her home. She was 40.
A native of Vicksburg, Mrs. Barnes was a 1980 graduate of Warren Central High School and received an associate’s degree from Hinds Community College. She owned and operated Village Hair Designs for a number of years.
She was a member of Triumph Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Jean Bell.
She is survived by her husband, Jason Barnes; a stepdaughter, Caitlin Barnes of Vicksburg; her parents, John Elwood and Joan K. Bell of Vicksburg; two sisters, Debra Bell Bayler of Vicksburg and Andrea Bell Carney of Tallulah; and a niece and a nephew.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Fields, pastor of Triumph Church, and the Rev. Robert Andrews, pastor of First Methodist Protestant Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 until 4 this afternoon at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
Pallbearers will be Mike Kavanaugh, Michael Kavanaugh, Richard Holland, Eddie Haden, David Gates, Steven Kight, Chris Collins and Michael Nassour.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Barrett, Martin Pace, Ann Haden, Stephanie Stout, Oren Bailess, Jeanie Ann Kent, Lee Thames, Theresa Collins, Elaine Rowland, Dr. Daniel Edney, Dr. Dan Dare, Dr. Lee Voulters, Chris Crevitt, employees of Bell Enterprises, members of the Warren County Sheriff’s Department and members of the Vicksburg Police Department.
Irene Benton Eaves
Irene Benton Eaves died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at River Region Medical Center West. She was 74.
Mrs. Eaves was born in Bessemer, Ala., and was reared in Lowndes County. She had lived in Vicksburg since 1962.
She was a graduate of New Hope High School and Mississippi State College for Women. She received a master’s degree from Mississippi State University.
She retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District as a library supervisor after 30 years. She was a member of the Mississippi Library Association, the Vicksburg Lions Club, the Paddlewheelers and Clinton Sunshine square dancing clubs, of which she was co-president for two years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary H. Benton; and a grandson, Jarrett Jones.
She is survived by her husband, Royce Eaves of Vicksburg; three daughters, Theresa Jones of Pass Christian, Roberta Sutliff of Powell, Ohio, and Martha Eaves of Vicksburg; and one brother, Walter Bryant Benton of Columbus.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the service.
Pallbearers will be Rad Styron, Dick Grau, Gary Walker, Mark Monroe, Steve Webster and Buddy Tindell.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Vicksburg Lions Club and Paddlewheelers and Clinton Sunshine square dancing clubs.
Hazel Warfield Jones
RAYVILLE, La. Hazel Warfield Jones died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Richland Parish Hospital in Rayville, La. She was 76.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of the Usher Board of Mount Carmel M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucious Jones; a nephew, Harry Kline; and two sisters, Eyvonne Earl and Florence Ellis.
She is survived by three nieces, Lillian Warfield, Hazel Warfield and Ruby Causey all of Vicksburg; a sister, Ruby Waites of Chicago; and a great-niece, Angie Causey of Vicksburg.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Douglas Price Jr.
Douglas Price Jr., died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at his home in Dwight, Ill. He was 76.
Formerly of Vicksburg, Mr. Price had lived in Illinois since 1971. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had been a pipefitter and welder since 1951 and a member of the Local 597 Union.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dwight.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Price Sr., and Bernice Freeman Price.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley McKay Price; three daughters, Kay Norris, Vicki Erschen and Jean Taylor, all of Dwight; two sons, Frank Price and Donnie Price, both of Dwight; one sister, Daisy Emfinger of Vicksburg; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. James Rickey officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hager Memorial Home in Dwight.
