10 vie to build Web site for Warren County

[3/2/04]Ten responses were received by Friday’s deadline for offers to build a Web site for Warren County.

District 4 Supervisor Carl Flanders, the newest member of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, suggested shortly after he was sworn in Jan. 4 that the county establish an Internet presence.

Flanders said it would be a good way for residents to get information about county government activities.

Flanders said he expects a 35-40 page, fully interactive Web site.

Prices were not revealed, but proposals were received from Ajasa Technologies Inc., E-Power Communications and Public Relations, Land Tech Web Designs Inc., Innovative Solutions, two from Southern Software Solutions Inc., Patrick Higgins, Buddy Fortner, Southern Division of Applied Research Associates and ITByte E-Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

The board accepted all proposals for later review. Under state law, supervisors may seek proposals for professional services as opposed to sealed bids. The pricing formulas vary.

In other business, the board:

Asked for a meeting with Big River Shipbuilders to discuss a communication from the low bidder to supply the county with a new ferry boat and barge for the Kings Point Ferry. The company had bid $533,000 for the project but later told County Engineer John McKee the cost of the steel to build the boat and barge had risen $20,000 since the bid had been computed. The company posted no performance bond and McKee has indicated that without the price increase, the company may rescind its offer.

Presented a resolution of appreciation to the staff of the Warren County Department of Human Resources for National Eligibility Case Worker Management Week.

Approved three invoices at the request of Jimmy Gouras Urban Planning Consultants for $37.50 for a Department of Environmental Quality invoice on the Anderson-Tully road project to be paid by Anderson-Tully; $275 for the CAP loan application for the Clear Creek Golf Course renovation, and $4,928.10 to ABMB Engineering on the River Region Water Distribution Extension project.

Heard an update on the project to renovate the Old Court House Museum-Eva W. Davis Memorial from Buildings and Grounds Superintendent Chuck Thornton. He said the project is ahead of schedule and Mayrant and Associates, which bid $558,600 for the project, hopes to be finished by the middle of May. He also said the plaster work, painting and waterproofing are complete and all that remains is completing the roofing.
