Vicksburg wins two, St. Al drops two in spring tourneys

[3/9/04]Vicksburg High used a pair of dominating pitching performances to win a pair of games at Quitman on Monday.

The Gators defeated Bay Springs, 4-3, in the first game, then used a four-run seventh inning to defeat host Quitman in the nightcap, 6-1.

In the opener, John Hendrix struck out 14 and scattered four hits over six innings to notch the win over Bay Springs. Hendrix got into a jam in the sixth inning, but pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out situation. Steven Price pitched the seventh for the save.

Jordan Henry, Sean Gibbs and Hampton Calvin each had a single in the win.

In the second game, James Jackson threw one-hit baseball through six innings and struck out 12 in the victory over Quitman.

Price pitched the seventh inning to record his second save of the afternoon.

Blake Tidwell hit an RBI double in the fourth inning one of only three Gator hits to score Sean Gibbs and break a scoreless tie.

The Gators added another run in the fifth, then scored four unearned runs in the seventh to secure the win.

North Pike 2, St. Aloysius 0

McComb 11, St. Aloysius 1

North Pike’s Corey Dickerson threw a four-hitter and did not allow a Flashes run in a shutout win over St. Aloysius at the McComb Tournament.

Andy Wiles took the loss.

In the second game, McComb scored six runs in the fourth inning and pitcher Justin Hay held the Flashes to one run and four hits.

The Flashes are off for the rest of the week.
