Warren Central batters Louisiana power Barbe, 8-4

[3/19/04]Nick Carson had three hits and two RBIs and Warren Central beat Louisiana powerhouse Barbe 8-4 on Thursday at the Ouachita Parish tournament.

Josh Gordon added a two-run home run and Mark Different went the distance on the mound, allowing eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts. The Vikings improved their record to 11-2 on the season.

The Vikings got on the board early with a pair of runs in the first inning. Carson and Allen Carlisle each singled and scored on passed balls.

Zach Balthrop started off the second with a double and scored on an RBI groundout by Drew Warnock to give WC a 3-0 lead.

But Barbe (11-6) responded in the third inning with three runs on four hits to tie the game.

Warren Central came right back in the bottom half with Gordon’s two-run blast.

“We answered them right back,” Broome said. “That was big-time.”

In the fourth, Balthrop reached on error, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by John Rice Pettway and scored on a single by Carson.

Two innings later, Balthrop singled, advanced on a Pettway bunt and scored again on a Carson single. Gordon then singled in Warnock to give the Vikings an 8-3 lead.
