Sarah West Fleming
GREENWOOD Sarah West Fleming died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 86.
Born in Monroe County, Mrs. Fleming was a longtime resident of Greenwood before moving to Vicksburg four years ago. She was former manager of the Holiday Inn and various other motels.
She was a charter member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Greenwood.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Fleming; and a son, Henry West Fleming.
Survivors include one daughter, Betsy F. Sayre of Vicksburg; two sons, Bobby Fleming of Vicksburg and David Fleming of Verona, Wis.; a sister, Annie Holmes of Coffeeville; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Greenwood with the Revs. Rob Gill and Geoffrey Joyner officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Wilson & Knight Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Crawford Street United Methodist Church, 1408 Cherry St., Vicksburg or to St. John’s United Methodist Church in Greenwood.
Ray Charles Griffin
CARY Ray Charles Griffin died Monday, March 22, 2004, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. He was 42.
Mr. Griffin was a resident of Cary and was supervisor of housekeeping at Heritage Manor in Rolling Fork.
He is survived by a daughter, Keisha Davis of Rolling Fork; four brothers, Gregory Griffin and Lawrence Griffin, both of Cary, Larry Griffin of Greenville and Phillip Griffin of Vicksburg; three sisters, Linda Ross and Pamela Griffin, both of Vicksburg, and Lisa Stamps of Cary; and other relatives and friends, including Inez Stamps of Cary.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Zion M.B. Church in Cary with Pastor Carl Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Community Cemetery.
Candis Harvey
Candis Harvey died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at her home. She was 55.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Harvey was a graduate of Hinds Junior College, the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi College. She taught math at Mount Olive High School for two years and at Warren Central Junior High School for 19 years. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Edward Hall Jr. and Jimmy Wynona Francis; and a brother, David Edward Hall.
Survivors include her husband, Ronnie Harvey of Vicksburg; two sons, Jae Harvey of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Lee Harvey of Vicksburg; a sister, Dollie Harrison of Vicksburg; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Ivey and Bob Conrad officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Keith Gordon, Dee Cotton, Mickey Simmons, David Pugh, Jerry Kelly and Bill Hanks.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. George Abraham, Dwain Cotton, Dan Tipton, Howard Jennings Sr. and Dr. Joe Files.
Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Village, Gideons International or to Hospice Ministries Inc.
Clarence McRunnels Jr.
GLEN ALLAN Clarence “Jody” McRunnels Jr. died Monday, March 22, 2004, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. He was 61.
A resident of Glen Allen, Mr. McRunnels worked for Ohora Farms for 33 years.
He is survived by his father, Clarence McRunnels Sr. of Glen Allan; a son, John Reynolds of Morristown, Tenn.; four daughters, Patricia Reynolds and Barbara Nell McCoy, both of Glen Allan, Yvonne Reynolds of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Jacqueline McRunnels of Jacksonville, Ala.; three brothers, Sandy Davis of Houston, Texas, Oneal McRunnels of Vicksburg and Lucius McRunnels of Glen Allan; three sisters, Mattie Martin of St. Louis, Mo., Margaret Williams of Glen Allan and Dorothy Burell of Durant; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Strangers Home M.B. Church in Grace with Pastor George Bean officiating. Burial will follow at Alps Cemetery in Grace.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Conner, William Conner, Leroy Conner, Rayford Conner, Frank Hudson and James D. Hite.
