Betty Bass Thomas

Betty Bass Thomas died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 66.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Thomas was a member of Cedar Grove M.B. Church and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy Bass Sr. and Louvenia Thomas Brown; a son, Larry Bass Thomas; a brother, Tommy Bass Jr.; and a sister, Carolyn Shay Hudson.

Survivors include a son, Kevin J. Bass Sr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Bernice Bass and Bettye Bass, both of Vicksburg; five brothers, Jack Thomas, Robert Bass, Jimmy Bass and Elbert Brown Jr., all of Vicksburg, and Emanuel Bass of Aurora, Ill.; seven sisters, Rosie L. Thomas and Clementine Thomas, both of Aurora, and Katie Bass, Lorine Ringo, Queenie B. King, Carolyn Faye Franklin and Geraldine Tenner, all of Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends, including Candace Bass of Hattiesburg, Kevin J. Bass Jr. of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Bernadine Bass of Vicksburg.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

Minnie Bell Thompson

EDWARDS Minnie Bell Thompson died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 77.

A housekeeper, Mrs. Thompson was a resident of Edwards.

She is survived by three sons, Walter J. Thompson of Broadview, Ill., Freddie Thompson of Chicago and Carl Thompson of Kennesaw, Ga.; three daughters, Margaret Donald and Debbie Thompson, both of Edwards, and Christine Turner of Harvey, Ill.; and four adopted children, Fannie Thompson, Markeith Thompson, Michienda Thompson and Craig Coins, all of Edwards.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

David Lawerence Washington

David Lawerence Washington died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at LSU Hospital in Shreveport, La. He was 40.

Mr. Washington was a resident of Vicksburg and a cook.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Washington; his parents, A.C. Washington and Minnie Pearl Washington; and a brother, Tony Washington.

Survivors include three brothers, A.C. Washington Jr. and Dewayne Washington, both of Vicksburg, and Gregory Washington of Jackson; a stepbrother, Kevin Washington of Aurora, Ill.; two sisters, Paula Stampley and Anita Carter, both of Vicksburg; aunts and uncles; and other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

Tennie Clydel Welch

OAK GROVE Tennie Clydel Welch died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Richardson Medical Center in Rayville, La. She was 77.

Mrs. Welch was a resident of Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Holmes Welch; and her parents, Samuel Dixson and Ola Hollingsworth.

Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Welch Norman of Richland Hills, Texas; three grandchildren, Stephanie Louise Norman, Cory Wayne Norman and John Paul Norman, all of Fort Worth, Texas; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lynn Carr, Shawn Ross, Kenneth King, Kevin King, Jack Madden and David Acreman.

LeRoy Williams

NEWELLTON LeRoy Williams died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro, La. He was 67.

Born in Natchez, Mr. Williams had lived in Tensas Parish for the past 40 years. He was a retired police officer and a member of First Baptist Church of Newellton.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Sue Williams of Newellton; four daughters, Ellen McCowin of Hebert, La., Frances Gintz of Ball, La., Judy Henley of Florence, Miss., and Brenda Loyed of Newellton; a brother, Charles Williams of Chicago; three sisters, Billie Marie Hodges of Baton Rouge, Margaret McKay of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Gwen Williams of Meridian, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. J. Fulton McGraw officiating. Burial will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of First Baptist Church of Newellton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Petty, Amos Anderson, Billy Lee and Glen Dale McCarty.
