[4/1/04]St. Aloysius’ bats came alive late Wednesday and the team survived an almost disastrous third inning to capture an 11-4 win over Bogue Chitto at Bazinsky Field.

Jordan Muirhead, Kyle Richards, Dustin Jones and Joe Mocknick each had two hits to lead the Flashes, who broke open a close game with a five-run fourth inning.

With Bogue Chitto holding a 3-2 lead in the fourth, Rob Jones, Dustin Jones and Mocknick had consecutive one-out singles. Rob Jones scored on Mocknick’s single to tie the game at 3.

With runners on second and third, Muirhead hit a grounder to third baseman Stephen Snow, who then fired home in an attempt to get Dustin Jones out. Jones, though, barreled over catcher Chad Moak and the ball skipped away allowing Mocknick to score the Flashes’ fifth run.

Muirhead scored on a Kyle Richards single and the Flashes added one more run on an Andy Wiles single to take a 7-3 lead. The Flashes sent 10 batters to the plate in the fourth.

Bogue Chitto added one in the top of the fifth inning, but St. Al came right back in the bottom to score three. An RBI single by Muirhead and a two-RBI double by Richards accounted for the runs.

Richards also picked up the win. He threw seven innings, allowed four hits and struck out two. Joseph Hart led off the seventh inning with a double for Bogue Chitto, but Richards retired the next three batters in order to end the ballgame.

The Flashes are scheduled to be on the road Saturday against McLaurin before returning home Tuesday to face Pelahatchie.
