Ruby B. Barnes

Ruby B. Barnes died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Belmont Place. She was 81.

Born in Yazoo County, Mrs. Barnes was the daughter of the late Elmer and Nellie Mooney Burroughs. She retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company in 1978 after 31 years of service. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Redwood United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard J. Barnes; a sister, Marie Hintson; two brothers, Willard B. Burroughs and Frank Newell Burroughs; and a niece, Barbara Nell Park.

Survivors include a niece, Ruby Wray Bounds of Redwood; and three nephews, Charles W. Burroughs of Vicksburg and Larry E. Burroughs and Charles Hintson, both of Redwood.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Lauren Porter, pastor of Redwood United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Bounds, Howard Park, Michael Lee, Wes Burroughs, Kevin Keen, Darrell Correro, Wayne Sharpe and J.O. Smith III.

Edgar Partridge

Edgar “Ed” Partridge died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 72.

Born in Eden, Miss., Mr. Partridge had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1962. He was a Navy veteran and was retired from the 412th Army Reserve. He was a retired building inspector for the City of Vicksburg and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Janice S. Partridge of Vicksburg; two sons, Eric H. Partridge of Guernville, Calif., and Scott R. Partridge of Malvern, Ark.; a brother, Charles A. Partridge of Sevierville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be private.

Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1607 Cherry St., Vicksburg, MS 39180.

Elizabeth Porter

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Porter died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 96.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Porter was a member of the Adult Choir at Mount Zion No. 4 Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley Porter; her parents, Wade and Louise Kelly Smith; two sisters, Virginia Smith McCray and Lula Summers; and two brothers, Wade Smith Jr. and Isaiah Smith.

Survivors include two brothers, John Smith of Vallejo, Calif., and Calvin Smith of Philadelphia, Pa.; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Susie Powell Williams

Susie Powell Williams died today, April 23, 2004, at her home. She was 47.

Mrs. Williams was a resident of Bingham Memorial Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Lee Powell Sr. and Susie Mae Powell; and a sister, Joanne Powell Warren.

Survivors include her husband, Levi Williams Sr. of Vicksburg; a son, Levi Williams Jr. of Vicksburg; a daughter, Tracy Williams of Vicksburg; two sisters, Lena Powell Chiplin and Dorothy Powell Chambers, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Willie Powell Jr. of Los Angeles; grandchildren; and other relatives.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
