Gators set to square off with St. Martin in deciding Game 3

[4/26/04]This weekend saw one local baseball team sweep its way through the first round of the state playoffs, another stay alive and a third eliminated.

Warren Central will take tonight off while waiting for a home game against Picayune on Friday in the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

The Vikings (21-9) defeated Ocean Springs in two games, while Picayune swept Gulfport. Game time for Friday’s opener is set for 6 p.m.

Vicksburg, meanwhile, will play a deciding third game tonight at 6 p.m. at Bazinsky Field. The Gators (18-10) defeated St. Martin 6-1 on Saturday to even their best-of-three series at 1.

The winner of tonight’s game will square off against Oak Grove at home on Friday night.

In Class 1A, St. Aloysius dropped two games Saturday and were eliminated from the playoffs.

The Flashes lost to host Edinburg in the first game Saturday, then fell to West Lincoln in the second game.

Porters Chapel Academy (23-1), which was awarded a bye through the first round of the Academy-A playoffs, will play at Wilkinson County Christian Academy on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The best-of-three series returns to PCA on Thursday.
