Services for the Rev. Linda Rhodman Straughter will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Standfield M.B. Church with Bishop George Tyler Straughter officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Rev. Straughter died Monday, May 3, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 51.

She was born in Gary, Ind., and was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She retired from Wal-Mart SuperCenter after 12 years of service and was the assistant pastor of Standfield M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, George Rhodman; and her grandmother, Mary Lou Rhodman.

Survivors include her husband, Lemmie Tyler Straughter Jr. of Vicksburg; a son, George Tyler Straughter of Atlanta, Ga.; three stepchildren, Pamela Anderson and Lemmie Tyler Straughter, both of Pensacola, Fla., and Deborah Straughter of Vicksburg; her mother, Naomi J. Rhodman of Vicksburg; a sister, the Rev. Lora R. Williams of Edwards; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives, including Eddie C. Rhodman Sr. and Mary Helen Franklin, both of Vicksburg.

Edward Leroy Street

SONDHEIMER Edward Leroy Street died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at East Carroll Parish Hospital in Lake Providence. He was 78.

Born in Crowville, Mr. Street had lived in Sondheimer since 1929. He was a retired farmer and a member of Sondheimer Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Bo Street of Tallulah, Jimmy Street of Oak Grove, Jerry Street of Sondheimer and Andy Street of West Monroe; two daughters, Linda Wells of Oak Grove and Penni Simonson of Vidor, Texas; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with Leslie Yates officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Lee Wells, Wayne Havard, Jason Wells, Christopher Street, Alvin Sullivan and Donald Jones.

Honorary pallbearer will be Raymond Stanfield.

David L. Whittington

David L. Whittington died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 52.

A Vicksburg native, Mr. Whittington was the son of the late Carey Earl and Estelle Curtis Whittington. He graduated from H.V. Cooper High School and Hinds Junior College.

He was a longtime employee of Saul Fried Furniture Co. before purchasing the business and operating it for six years. He was a former member of the Vicksburg Jaycees, serving with the Miss Mississippi Pageant. He was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by a brother, Carey Earl Whittington Jr.

He is survived by two sisters, Billie E. Sherrill of Lakewood, Colo., and Peggy Dickinson of Vicksburg; a brother, Sam Whittington of Sacramento, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.

Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Lucy Mae Williams

Services for Lucy Mae Williams will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Melvin Bolden officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams died Friday, April 30, 2004, in Seaside, Calif. She was 81.

Born in Vicksburg to the late Ben and Sarah Priestley, she was a resident of Seaside.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Francis Edwards and Clara Jones; a brother, Richard Priestley; a son, Tommy Newton; and a daughter, Mary Ann Brown.

Survivors include eight sons, Amos Griffin of North Carolina, Matthew Williams of Vicksburg, Melvin Williams, Michael Williams, Johnny Williams, Jacob Williams and Earl Williams, all of Seaside, and Buck Williams of Bossier City, La.; two daughters, Augustine Matthew of Vicksburg and Mattie Franklin of Seaside; six brothers, David Bass and Willie Bass, both of Detroit, Andrew Davis of Memphis, and Eli Priestley, Otis Priestley and Ben Priestley, all of Greenville, Miss.; a sister, Genevie Tate of Naperville, Ill.; 31 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
