Patricia Ann Anderson Segrest

Services for Patricia Ann Anderson Segrest will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Vicksburg Convention Center. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 tonight at Lakeview Funeral Home with family hour at 5 and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority ceremony at 6.

Mrs. Segrest, a longtime Warren County educator and the longest-serving member of the Vicksburg Bridge Commission, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004. She was 58.

Mrs. Segrest was director of testing for the Vicksburg Warren School District, but had worked in public schools here since 1967 as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and in administrative positions. She was responsible for all state testing required by the No Child Left Behind act and handled professional development within the district.

A native of Kings, Mrs. Segrest was the daughter of the late Hazel and Zellner Anderson. She graduated in 1963 from Rosa A. Temple High School and received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1967 from Alcorn State University. She studied at Mississippi College and Mississippi State University before receiving a master’s degree from ASU.

She was inducted into ASU’s Alumni Hall of Honor about 10 years ago and was a fifth-generation member of Triumph M.B. Church.

She also served on the Vicksburg Bridge Commission for more than 20 years.

She was an adjunct instructor at Alcorn and a part-time employee of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Phi Delta Kappa-Utica Chapter, Les Souers Charmantes Social and Civic Club and the Young Adults for Positive Action. She was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Hospice Foundation.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Segrest of Cordova, Tenn.; a sister, Zelmarine Murphy of Vicksburg; and friends and other relatives, including members of the Johnson, Slaughter, Brown, Maxwell, Taylor, Young, Davenport and Brooks families.

Nettie S. Thompson

BATON ROUGE Nettie S. Thompson died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge, La. She was 92.

A native of Vicksburg, Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late James and Jesse Shackouls. She had been a resident of Baton Rouge since 1954. She retired as an accountant with the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office in 1973.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Thompson.

Survivors include two sons, John Edward Thompson and Paul William Thompson, both of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Susan Misuraca, Johnelle Wallace, John P. Thompson and Frank S. Thompson; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Green Acres Cemetery with the Rev. Sam Dunaway, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, officiating.

Fisher Funeral Home has charge of local arrangements.

David L. Whittington

Memorial services for David L. Whittington will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Dunaway, pastor of Grace Baptist Church, officiating.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Whittington died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 52.

A Vicksburg native, Mr. Whittington was the son of the late Carey Earl and Estelle Curtis Whittington. He graduated from H.V. Cooper High School and Hinds Junior College.

He was a furniture store owner and proprietor for 15 years. He was a former member of the Vicksburg Jaycees, serving with the Miss Mississippi Pageant. He was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by a brother, Carey Earl Whittington Jr.

He is survived by two sisters, Billie E. Sherrill of Lakewood, Colo., and Peggy Dickinson of Vicksburg; a brother, Sam Whittington of Sacramento, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Israel, Dr. William Wooten, Dr. Michael Davis, Lee H. Abraham, John Howard Dennis and Jim Wally.
