Estelle Hambright Bacon

Estelle “Sis” Hambright Bacon died Friday, May 14, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 66.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Bacon had been a sales clerk for The Hub for 10 years. She was a member of Redbone United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, J.C. Welch and Billy L. Tedder; and her parents, George Fred and Birdie Lee Dedmon Hambright.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Welch of Vicksburg and Donald Timothy Welch of Wichita Falls, Texas; two brothers, Red Hambright of Vicksburg and George Hambright of Utica; a sister, Sally Tedder of Vicksburg; and two grandchildren, Timothy Shane Welch and Amanda Nicole Welch.

Services will be at 1 today at Green Acres Cemetery with the Rev. Kenny Hart and Sam Dunaway officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John Erwin, Wayne Hambright, Bill Jones, Todd Johnson, Bill Baxley and Steven Placher.

Louis Gray Services for Louis Gray will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Yokena.

Mr. Gray died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y. He was 71.

A former Vicksburg resident, Mr. Gray lived in Buffalo. He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired construction worker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Hicks and Alice Eastman Allison; and a sister, Willie Mae Gray Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Katie Gray of Vicksburg; three sons, Herbert Gray, Jimmy L. Gray and Larry Gray, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Donna Gray and Belinda Gray, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Rose Lee Thomas of Buffalo; three brothers, James Giles, John Henry Giles and Albert Allison, all of Buffalo; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives and friends, including Betty Davis, Jearline and Benie Cosby, and members of the Eastman family.

Catherine L. Lentz

Catherine L. Lentz died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 86.

Born in Hinds County, Miss Lentz was a longtime resident of Vicksburg. She was the daughter of the late Inkey Asa and Mamie Smith Bryant. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Elizabeth Bryant, Patricia Downey, Mary Gladney and Ruth Kirk.

Survivors include two daughters, Kay Haynes of Jackson and Nita Shaw of Vicksburg; a son, Harvey Lewis of Livington, Mont.; two sisters, Josephine George of Pascagoula and Minnie Belle Brown of Raymond; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Riles Funeral Home with Dr. Frank Lescallette, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Dr. James Valentine, Jerry Lynch, Gaylan McGregor, Robert L. Hall, Joe Crow and James E. Stevens.

Robert Lee Marshall

Robert Lee Marshall died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 64.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Marshall was a member of Travelers Rest M.B. Church.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Mae Marshall of Vicksburg; a son, Raymond Marshall of Racine, Wis.; two daughters, Sharon Marshall Sanford of Forth Riley, Kan., and Sherrell Cooper of Memphis; his mother, Lula Mae Springs of Vicksburg; a brother, Ezekiel Springs Jr. of Vicksburg; five sisters, Jo-Elise Cooke of Jackson, Ga., Essie Montgomery of Glendale, Ariz., Vivian Flaggs of Vicksburg, Rosie Williams of Tallulah and Nina Lyons of Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
