[6/7/04]Traffic accidents killed two people and injured two others in the area during the weekend.
In a separate wreck this morning, two more people were hurt.
The first fatality was in Vicksburg when a woman injured in a two-car wreck on South Frontage Road at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday died about an hour later at River Region Medical Center.
The victim was identified as Bonnie Mae Jinkins, 69, 117 Bazinsky Road, said Warren County Coroner John Thomason.
Vicksburg police spokesman DaVon Grey said Mrs. Jinkins was attempting to make a left turn off South Frontage Road onto Plaza Drive when her Nissan Sentra was hit by a Saturn driven by Sandra Harris, 36, 2059 Johnson Road.
Harris and a passenger in her car, Pearl Jones, 41, of Hermanville, were also taken to the hospital.
Jones remained in the hospital this morning; Harris was treated and released, said a hospital spokesman.
In the second fatal traffic accident, Cleveland Scott of Rolling Fork died in a one-car wreck in Issaquena County early Sunday.
Scott, 49, 209 St. Michaels Road, lost control of his 1994 Ford Explorer at 6:22 a.m. on U.S. 61 at Valley Park, said Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. James Walker.
Scott’s vehicle hit a tree and he was ejected, Walker said. He was alone in the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt, Walker said.
In this morning’s wreck, two men were taken to River Region following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 80 near Mount Alban Road.
Kenneth Bowman, 34, of Brandon, and Anthony Welcher, no age or address available were headed east when their Ford F-250 collided with a Toyota Camry that had crossed the center line shortly after 9. Both are employees of McInnis Electric,
Oscar McNeil, 17, of 514 Feld St., said a dog in the back seat of his car took his attention away from the road.
“When the dog licked my ear, it distracted me,” he said. “I swung my arm by my ear and swerved into the wrong lane.”
Neither McNeil nor a passenger in his car, Andrew Wildee, was taken to a hospital.
The pickup, which was towing a trailer, was traveling west when the wreck occurred, landing the truck on its side and dumping electrical equipment from its bed. The trailer remained upright.
Both vehicles were damaged, and highway traffic was blocked for more than an hour.
Bowman and Welcher were being treated at River Region later this morning.
Mrs. Jinkins’ death was the seventh from wrecks in Warren County this year.
