Herbert Lane Allman

PIONEER, La. Herbert Lane Allman died Monday, June 7, 2004, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital. He was 86.

Mr. Allman was born in Brownstown, Ind., and had lived in Pioneer, La., for a number of years. A veteran of World War II, he served with Company A of the 5th Engineering Combat Battalion. He was a member of Pioneer Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl May Bush Allman; his father, Joseph Sheridan Allman; four brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Arizona Allman of Pioneer; a son, Larry Allman of Seymour, Ind.; two stepsons, Joe L. Collum and Leon Collum, both of Kermit, Texas; one daughter, Judy Banister of Seymour; four stepdaughters, Fannie Buffington of Rainier, Ore., Joyce Wilson of Mesquite, Texas, Cherry Compton of Oak Grove and Wanda Nelson of Pioneer; two sisters, Gladys Jones and Betty Malone, both of Seymour; and other relatives.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Pioneer Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Annie Mae Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at Reeks Cemetery in Oak Grove.

Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove has charge of arrangements.

James Franklin Baker

James Franklin Baker died Monday, June 7, 2004, at River Region West Campus. He was 73.

Mr. Baker was a native of Thomasville, Ga., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1996. He was a retired auto mechanic and former employee of the Frontier Package Store. He served in the Air Force in occupied Germany. He was a member of the First Christian faith.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his father, Roy T. Baker Sr., and a brother, Eugene Baker.

He is survived by his mother, Lois Hayes Baker of Moultrie, Ga.; one daughter, Ann Jarrell of Thomasville; three sons, Dennis Baker and Howard Baker, both of Thomasville, and Carlos Baker Sr. of Vicksburg; a sister, Geraldine Dueitt of Moultrie; a brother, Roy T. Baker Jr. of Auburndale, Fla.; and six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at a later date under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Jennie Beaube

Jennie Beaube died Monday, June 7, 2004, at her home. She was 79.

A native of Pinola, Texas, Mrs. Beaube was the daughter of the late William and Rosie Dixon Downs. She had lived in Vicksburg most of her life and was employed with Knapp’s Bakery for a number of years. She was a member of Redbone United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Beaube, and a daughter, Karen Tina Matthews.

Survivors include two daughters, Priscilla Whitten of Ensley, Ala., and Janice Pate of Maylene, Ala.; one son, Pete Matthews of Mandeville, La.; six grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Bruce Massey and Kirk Harper, both of Vicksburg.

Her body is being donated to University Medical Center in Jackson. A memorial service will be at a later date under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Claude E. Brent Sr.

Claude E. Brent Sr. died Monday, June 7, 2004, at his home. He was 73.

Born in Carpenter, Mr. Brent was the son of the late James Albert and Martha Ellison Brent. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served with the Marines for 14 years, including in the Korean Conflict.

He had been employed with the Carpenters Union Local No. 303 for more than 25 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2572, American Legion Post No. 3 and Loyal Order of Moose No. 1581.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Willie L. Friar Brent of Vicksburg; two daughters, Jacquetta “Jackie” Brewer of Vicksburg and Debra Lynn Jordan of Leechburg, Pa.; five sons, Jerry W. Brent of Clinton, Roger L. Brent of Vicksburg, Claude E. Brent Jr. of Baton Rouge, David W. Brent of Luling, Texas, and Robert Bryan Kethley of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two brothers, John Brent of Vicksburg and Lucky Brent of Minden, La.; and 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Francis Vriesen officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Richard Kethley, Jeremy Brent, Justin Brent, Robert Brewer, Frank Segree and David Brewer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Price, Dr. Russell Barnes, Ann Haas, members of the VFW Post 2572 and members of American Legion Post No. 3.

Pamela Jean Forrester

TALLULAH Pamela Jean Forrester died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at her home in Tallulah. She was 52.

Born in Reno, Nev., Mrs. Forrester was a homemaker and had been a paramedic in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

She is survived by her husband, James D. Forrester of Tallulah; a son, Nicholas A. Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; her parents, Joe and Betty Clifton of Faller, Colo.; two sisters, Sandra Hall of Seymour, Ind., and Janet Clifton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Nathaniel Smith and Rebecca Smith, both of Jacksonville.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at her home, 829 Mississippi St., Tallulah, with the Rev. Paul Savin officiating.

Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Katherine Sullivan Gorman

NEW ORLEANS Katherine “Kit” Sullivan Gorman died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at her home in New Orleans. She was 49.

Born in Vicksburg, Miss Gorman was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School. She received a degree in journalism from Mississippi State University and was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Mississippi.

Miss Gorman was a former editor of CityBusiness in New Orleans and had worked for several newspapers in the New Orleans area. She was a past president of the New Orleans Press Club.

She was preceded in death by her father, James E. Gorman; maternal grandparents, Maj. and Mrs. Daniel Warren Blake; and her paternal grandparents, James E. Gorman and Mary Barber Gorman Simrall.

Survivors include Phillip Bazer; her mother, Mary Blake Gorman of Blakely; three brothers, James E. Gorman Jr. of Apalachicloa, Fla., Michael Blake Gorman of Atlanta, Ga., and Robert Frank Gorman of Twin Lake, Miss.; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Gorman of Jackson.
