FORESTVILLE, Md. Vanessa Kate Sanders Moore died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at University of Maryland Medical Center. She was 43.

A native of Vicksburg, Mrs. Moore was a graduate of Warren Central High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Jackson State University.

Mrs. Moore had lived in Forestville, Md., for the past 16 years. She was a computer specialist for the United States Agricultural Department in Washington, D.C., and IBM in Bethesda, Md. She was a member of Arbutus Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James Scott Sr. and Ruth D. Scott.

Survivors include her husband, Anthony J. Moore Sr. of Forestville; a daughter, Katina N. Moore of Forestville; a son, Anthony J. Moore Jr. of Forestville; a stepson, Jobry A. Newson of Byhalia, Miss.; her parents, Willie Sr. and Rosa L. Sanders of Vicksburg; a sister, Helen G. Sanders Heard of Vicksburg; a brother, Willie Sanders Jr. of Vicksburg; nieces and nephews; and other relatives, including James Scott Jr., Clarence D. Scott, Edna D. Williams, Elliot Scott and the Neal, Demby and J. Williams families, all of Vicksburg.

Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater, Miss., has charge of arrangements.

Herman L. Mullen Jr.

Services for Herman L. Mullen Jr. will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Mullen died Monday, June 7, 2004, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 59.

Mr. Mullen was the son of the late Herman Lester Sr. and Mary Louise Boone Mullen. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1984 after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10734 and Bovina Baptist Church.

Mr. Mullen is survived by two daughters, Shannon Campbell of Vicksburg and Kelly Mullen of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Marilyn Thompson of Vicksburg and Edna Morton of Griffin, Ga.; two brothers, Bobby Mullen and Jimmy Mullen, both of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert A. Mullen, Perry Mullen, Archie Kirkley, Edward Mullen, Kyle Hall, Steve Holland, Arthur “Hobo” Lumbley and Grady Bryant.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Boone, Danny Boone and Kenny Boone.

Eileen A. Mullens

Eileen A. Mullens died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 79.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Mullens was the daughter of the late John and Anna Mahoney Murphy. She had been a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Brooklyn before moving to Vicksburg in 1989.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Joyce.

Survivors include her husband, William Grant Mullens of Vicksburg; three daughters, Rita Gassen of Vicksburg, Eileen Linwand of Brookline, Mass., and Anne Holcomb of Madras, Ore.; two sons, Richard Mullens of Quincy, Mass., and Bill Mullens of Coulver, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Resurrection will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Richard Mullens, Bill Mullens, Rita Gassen, Charles Calhoun, Dr. Walter Johnston and Dr. J. Russell Barnes.

Mary F. Owsley

Services for Mary F. “Boots” Owsley will be at 2 p.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick McAlister officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Mrs. Owsley died Monday, June 7, 2004, at her home. She was 75.

A native and lifelong resident of Warren County, Mrs. Owsley was the daughter of the late Acie and Maggie Cockrell Hearn. She was a retired nurse’s aide, having worked for The Sydney Home, Vicksburg Convalescent Home and in private duty.

Survivors include her husband, D.W. Owsley of Vicksburg; a son, Dewey Owsley Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Diane Dill and Susan Owsley, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Hubert Hearn of Vicksburg; three sisters, Dollie Taylor of Gulfport and Margaret Cockrell and Ann Robinson, both of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randy Wester, Wayne Dill, Michael Dill, Shane Kemp, Trey Owsley, Shannon Warnock, Hugh Guest, Harry Uzzle and George Alexander.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. William Wooten, George Dill and John Arnold.

Vivian Stevens Wince

Services for Vivian Stevens Wince will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wince died Friday, June 4, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 50.

Mrs. Wince was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Wince Jr.; her parents, Tom and Lula Bailey Stephens; two brothers, Roosevelt Stevens and Marvin Thomas; and one sister, Beatrice Hunter-Wince.

She is survived by seven brothers, Eugene Stevens and Samuel Stevens, both of Chicago, Sidney Thomas of Toledo, Ohio, John S. Stephens and Barry G. Stevens, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Malcolm Stevens of Muskegon, Mich., and Claude Anthony Stevens of Jackson; three sisters, Leila Deyamport of Vicksburg, Dorothy W. Millner of Milwaukee, Wis., and Theodosia Stevens of Clinton; one stepson, Clifton Nash of Port Gibson; one stepdaughter, Jessica Wince of Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends, including Dr. David Schaff of Douglas, Texas, and Wanda Duvernet of Vicksburg.
