Vicksburg Gators win baseball tourney

[6/13/04]After opening with a 10-4 win over West Ouachita on Friday, the Vicksburg Gators took all three games on Saturday to win the West Ouachita Invitational.
The Gators racked up 49 runs in the tournament’s four games, while allowing only 11 runs to their opponents.
Stanton Price hit the game-winning RBI single in the first game as the Gators defeated Ouachita Christian 4-3. Stefan Gibbs picked up the win, allowing three hits and three runs in seven innings.
The Gators put on a hitting display in their second game, pulverizing St. Frederick 18-1. Steven Price had three hits and four RBIs, and Wesley Miller had three hits with an RBI. Tyler Wells and Jordan Henry each added a pair of hits and Fred Denton hit a three-run home run for the Gators. Avery Mathes gave up just two hits in four innings for the win.
The Gators’ bats stayed hot in the championship game as they beat Ouachita 17-3 to win the tournament. Steven Price led the way again with three hits and three RBIs. Denton, Blake Tidwell and Vernon Wolfe each had two hits, and Tanner Woodson had a three-RBI triple for the Gators. Stanton Price threw five innings, allowing three hits, to pick up the victory.
