[6/15/04]One Port Gibson man sought for the Saturday shooting of another was found Monday.
Acting on a tip, Claiborne and Hinds sheriff’s deputies arrested Damon Davis, 26, at 7:30 p.m. at a Utica residence, Claiborne County Sheriff Frank Davis said.
Damon Davis was charged with murder and was being held at the Claiborne County Jail, Frank Davis said. No bond had been set. His first name was spelled Dimon when he was identified as a suspect.
Damon Davis is originally from California, but has been living with relatives in Port Gibson, Davis said.
Patrick Berry, 20, no address available, was shot early Saturday morning at Moak Petroleum, a convenience store on Mississippi 18 at U.S. 61 North. He died at about 2:45 a.m.
The circumstances of the shooting were still being investigated, Frank Davis said. Berry was apparently shot by someone in a truck parked in the lot.
A handgun believed used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.
John Moak of Vicksburg, the store’s owner, said the shooting was not connected to the store or any employees.
Those who harbored Damon Davis may also face charges, Frank Davis said, though no arrests have been made.
“We’re going to discuss that with the district attorney,” Frank Davis said.
