Preston Griffin Sr.

Preston “P.G.” Griffin Sr. died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 87.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Griffin was a World War II veteran and a former employee at Waterways Experiment Station.

He was preceded in death by a son, Preston Griffin Jr.; a daughter, Lillie Mae Kent; his parents, Jim and Bertha Griffin; three brothers, Ed Griffin, James Griffin and Ben Griffin; and three sisters, Annie Lee Wallace, Mary Ollie Wallace and Dorothy Griffin.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Smith Griffin; three daughters, Rosalind Denise Johnson of Liverpool, N.Y., Sherry Ann Johnson of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Pamela Renee McGavin of Chula Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Ora Lee Downing of Chicago and Letha Butler of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Jon Cole Hales

OAK GROVE Jon Cole Hales died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. He was 18.

Mr. Hales was a resident of Oak Grove.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, J.R. Hales.

Survivors include his parents, John Robert “Robbie” Hales and Laronda Sue Hales of Oak Grove; a sister, Danjiel Rae “Danni” Hales of Oak Grove; his grandparents, Dollie Lee Hales and Melvin Ray Whitehead Sr., both of Oak Grove, and Peggy Whitehead of Goodwill, La.; his great-great-grandmother, Inez “Jack” Allman of Pioneer; and aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Annie Mae Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at Reeks Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jackie Gunter, Adam Davis, Bubba Whitehead, Jeremy Voigt, Larry Kirby and Heath Turnbow.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Dupree, Chris Sanders, Joey Peterson and Billy Ray Anderson.

Donald Ray Thompson

DELTA Services with military honors for Donald Ray “Don” Thompson will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Van Windom officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Thompson died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at his home in Delta. He was 51.

Born in Natchez, Mr. Thompson lived most of his life in Vicksburg. He retired from the Navy and the Vicksburg Police Department as a lieutenant and was a former employee of the Copiah County Sheriff’s Department.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle Beasley; a daughter, Laurie Thompson; and a brother, Tony Ferguson.

Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Thompson Beck of Vicksburg; a son, Ray Thompson of Vicksburg; a sister, Katherine Schultz of Lexington; a brother, David Hutchinson of Fallon, Nev.; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mark Denham, Martin Pace, Jeff Riggs, Marvin Curtis, Jack Dowe and Bobby Stewart.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Stimac, Bill Heggins, Randy Naylor, Jon Carter, James “Tiny” Carter, Ford Emery, Lionel Johnson and members of the Vicksburg Police Department and Warren County Sheriff’s Department.

R.C. Williams

DELHI R.C. Williams died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi. He was 91.

Born in Cass County, Texas, Mr. Williams had been a resident of Delhi since 1947.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Williams; a son, Roddy Williams; a grandson, Robert Williams; and his parents, Claude and Lottie McDuff Williams.

Survivors include two sons, Toby Williams of Delhi and Arby Williams of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi with the Rev. Don Doughty officiating. Burial will follow at Faith Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Roger Williams, Claude Williams, Jamie Williams, Chad Nelson, Kevin Williams, Hunter Collins and Ronny Leazer.
