Ellen Green

ROLLING FORK Ellen Green died Monday, June 28, 2004, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. She was 88.

Miss Green was a resident of Rolling Fork.

She is survived by two sons, Willie James Morgan of Rolling Fork and Theodore Williams of Anguilla; a daughter, Willie B. Cooper of Rolling Fork; nine grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at E.P. Baptist Church with J.H. Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow at Cynthia Diana Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

Charlie Reeves

PORT GIBSON Charlie Reeves died Monday, June 28, 2004, at his home in Port Gibson. He was 85.

Mr. Reeves was born to the late Sam and Berda Hooks-Reeves. He retired as a mechanic for Dent’s Garage and was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Reeves; a son, Fred Reeves; three brothers, Fred Reeves Sr., William Reeves and Alexander Reeves; and two sisters, Lucy Jones-Reeves and Willie Ruth Archer.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Reeves of Memphis and Michael Reeves of Lorman; four daughters, Katie Washington and Doris Davis, both of Port Gibson, Charlie Bell Smith of Fayette and Cheryl Rankin of Lorman; a sister, Thelma Gaston of Memphis; a brother, Emanuel Reeves of Memphis; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends, including Richard Starks and Cammie Berry, both of Lorman.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Revs. Kevin Reeves and James Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at McCay Cemetery in Russum under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from noon Saturday until the service at the church.

Wilton A. Tillman

UTICA Wilton A. “Bill” Tillman died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at his home in Utica. He was 87.

Mr. Tillman was born in Hazlehurst to the late Porter Eugene Tillman and Pooler Garrett Brittain. He served as assistant chief of Right of Way with the Mississippi State Highway Department, retiring after 44 years of service. He moved to Utica in 1950 and was formerly employed by the Natchez Trace. He was a former mayor of Utica.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as staff sergeant in the 179th Infantry, 45th Division, under Gens. Patton and Clark. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, two Purple Hearts, the Oak Leaf Cluster and gold stars for six major battles.

Mr. Tillman was a member of the American Legion and Utica Lions Club, having served a number of terms as president. He was a member and former chairman of the Hinds County Planning Commission, serving more than 35 years. He was honored for service by the commission, the Hinds County Board of Supervisors and the Utica 20th Century Club.

He served more than 40 years as a deacon and trustee of Utica Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jayne Mozelle Dodson Tillman; two sisters, Evelyn Hawthorne of Little Rock, Ark., and Betty Maxell of Brookhaven; nieces; nephews; and other relatives, including Dorothy Marler Tillman of Brandon and R.N. Jolly of Houston, Texas.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Utica Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben James officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.

Pallbearers will be Scott Dooley, Lamar Adair, John Longmire, Jonathan Longmire, Bill Hopper, Mike Hennington, John White and Doug Womack.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Utica Baptist Church Men’s Sunday school class.
