John Terrell Cummings
John Terrell Cummings died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at his home. He was 55.
Born in Charleston, Miss., Mr. Cummings was a resident of Vicksburg. He was an Army veteran, having served in Vietnam and was a logger and timber cutter.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dortha Winters; his father, George Terrell Cummings; his stepfather, Luther Winters; and two sisters, Shirl Logan and Lula Turner.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah S. Cummings of Vicksburg; a son, Charlie Cummings of Vicksburg; three daughters, Christina Hayes, Ruthie Rogers and Johnna Cummings, all of Vicksburg; six brothers, Marion Cummings and Fred Cummings, both of Vicksburg, Charlie Cummings and Travis Cummings, both of Dallas, Texas, and Sam Cummings and Rocky Cummings, both of Borger, Texas; five sisters, Nona Ford of Vicksburg, Donna Cummings of Borger, Rachel Cummings of Dallas and Dorothy Pearl Turner and Josie Williams, both of Enid, Miss.; and 11 grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Doris Leist officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Dirk Logan, Guy Mitchell Logan, Todd Logan, Samuel Turner, Brian Turner and Troy Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be R.L. Scallions, Junior Scallions, Mike Scallions, Billy Joe Hayes, Glenn Redditt and Michael Canton.
Lucille A. Field
Lucille A. Field died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 84.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Field was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Major Richard M. Field; and a son, Bobby Paxton.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat Paxton Caldwell of Tallulah; her daughter-in-law, Judy Paxton of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Helen Parrish Davenport of Banera, Texas, and Buddy Caldwell of Tallulah.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger McGrew officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. today until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Miller, Lindsey Miller, Scott Paxton, Keith Paxton, Paul Mlakar and Lamar Alexander.
Pearlean Johnson Hollins
Services for Pearlean Johnson Hollins will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeview Funeral Home with family hour from 5 until 6.
Mrs. Hollins died Friday, July 2, 2004, at her home. She was 72.
A resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Hollins was a member of Cool Spring M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Bailey; her parents, Melisia Jordan and Amos Johnson; her brother, J.W. Neal; a stepson, Leon Bailey; and a grandson, Nilton Hollins.
Survivors include seven sons, Dennis Bailey of Memphis, Tommie Bailey of Little Rock, Ark., Freddie Bailey and David Hollins, both of Joliet, Ill., and Newton Hollins, Forrest Hollins and Nathaniel Bailey, all of Eagle Lake; seven daughters, Sharolyn Bailey, Willena Dotson and Dorothy Hollins, all of Vicksburg, Cora Floyd of Moss Bluff, La., Carolyn McDowell of Cleveland, Ohio, Debra Burgess of Columbus, Ohio, and Melisia Moore of Indianapolis, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Vergie Thompson of Indianapolis; five brothers, Odell Jordan, Roosevelt Jordan and Berry Jordan, all of Vicksburg, and Amos Johnson and Simuel Johnson, both of New Orleans; nine sisters, Willie Mae Brown, Ollie Johnson, Carrie Mae Carson and Mary Gray, all of Vicksburg, Cora Mae McClatcher of Memphis, Hattie Haley of New Orleans, Geneva Triham of Inglewood, Calif., Willena Cole of Jackson and Callie Gathings of Blytheville, Ark.; 41 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Elizabeth Kenny
ROLLING FORK Elizabeth Kenny died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 89.
Mrs. Kenny is survived by one daughter, Ethel Jackson of Vicksburg; three sons, Sylvester Kenny of Columbus, Ga., Harvey Kenny of Vallejo, Calif., and Wilbert Kenny of Vicksburg; and 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Lula M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with Pastor Quincy Washington officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Fitler.
Visitation will be from 5 until 6 tonight at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.
Ethel Lee Neal
ST. LOUIS Services for Ethel Lee Neal will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill No. 1 Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the service at the church.
Miss Neal died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis. She was 80.
A former Vicksburg resident, Miss Neal lived in St. Louis. She was a member and mother of China Grove M.B. Church in Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James “Jim” and Ella C. Taylor; a brother, Elijah Davis; and a sister, Willie B. Neal.
Survivors include two sons, John Neal Jr. of Vicksburg and Elijah Neal of Gary, Ind.; four daughters, Deolia Barnes of St. Louis, Susie Johnson of Joliet, Ill., and Starlean Richardson and Ethel Bowling, both of Gary; three sisters, Annie Lee Taylor and Corine Sanders, both of Vicksburg, and Susie Mae Garden of Gary; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Willie Stelivan and Christine Thomas, both of Vicksburg.
Neva J. Smith
GREENVILLE Neva J. Smith died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at Kings Daughters Hospital. She was 80.
Born in Forest City, Ark., Mrs. Smith had lived in Vicksburg before moving to Greenville. She was regional manager of Union Banker Insurance Company and was ABWA’s Woman of the Year in 1981. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Vicksburg and attended Glendale Baptist Church in Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ottis E. Smith; her parents, Claude and Myrl Poland; two sons, John Ramphrey and Lonnie Ramphrey; a sister, Flodell Krinitsky; and a brother, James Poland.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra O’Brian of Greenville and Sharon Greco of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, George Ramphrey of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Margie Katzenmeyer of Vicksburg and Claudine Stewart and Myra Horton, both of Escatawpa; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fisher Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Carl Stewart, Phil Clossman, Sam Greco Sr., Mark Greco, Jimmy O’Brian and Phillip Karr.
